WWelcome

from the CEO

On the 13[th] of September 2023 Aberystwyth Town Football Club Foundation was granted charity status. This was a significant achievement for the football club and especially the club committee.

Aberystwyth Town Football Club’s Aim.

Aberystwyth Town Football Club is a community led football club and the largest sporting club in the county of Ceredigion. We are known as the “Club of Ceredigion”. The club is also delighted to announce that it has been granted charity status and the launch of the Aberystwyth Town Football Club Foundation. The Foundation has been established in support of the community especially improving the health and wellbeing of all involved within the club from the Junior league football, through all our academies men’s and women’s first teams and then on to improving lifestyle with our Fit Fan scheme, disability team and walking football. The FAW are now in support of using the club as an example within Mid Wales on best practice in supporting disability and walking football within the community.

Vision & strategy

The Foundation provides Aberystwyth Town Football Club with the opportunity to concentrate the club’s efforts in enhancing and developing the senior men’s and women’s football teams, with the added confidence that the foundation provides the vital support and structure required to support the academies, disability football and walking football within the community of Ceredigion.

Thank you to all our supporters

Unfortunately, three of the original trustees have said goodbye, and I will be resigning as the chair of the foundation at the end of this year. The remainder of the trustees must now regroup and ensure that the charity continues to grow. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the foundation by attending an event, donating. We are particularly grateful to Aberystwyth Town Football Club board members, committee members, staff and players for their continued support, but the biggest thank you goes to the supporters of Aber Town FC.

Raising the Foundation Profile

Barrels and Planks charity event

ABERYSTWYTH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB FOUNDATION

On Saturday the 25th of May. Members from across the Aberystwyth Town FC clubs took part in a very physical and demanding event in support of raising funding for all the academy, disability and walking football teams. The aim of the event was to start at the mouth of the harbour on South beach by the RNLI Lifeboat station and end by Alexandra Hall attempting the well-known Aberystwyth custom of kicking the bar.

Using 3 barrels and 2 planks, members from the club moved the barrels and planks the distance of 2Km along the promenade from South to North beach. All money raised was donated to the Aberystwyth Town Football Club Foundation.

ABERYSTWYTH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB FOUNDATION

On the 22[nd] of June 2024 players from the Royal Welch Fusiliers/ Royal Welsh played Aber Old Boys in a hot summer afternoon charity football match.

A large group of the local community witnessed a thrilling match which eventually saw Aber Old boys winning 5-2. At half time the crowd was entertained by Aber Stars to a fantastic penalty shootout. After the match the foundation raised some money from carvery ticket sales, auction and a raffle.

Aber Stars – Disability Football

Aber Stars – Disability Football

ABERYSTWYTH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB FOUNDATION

Aber Stars are a huge part of the club. They train every Friday from 17:00 – 18:30. The team plays in the PAN disability South Wales league. The club provides Aber Stars with the opportunity of appearing and playing at half time on the first and final games on the season. They also look forward to their half time Boxing day appearance especially as they sample the delights of the clubs catering with the first team players after the game.

This year the Aber Stars have supported the main Foundation Barrels and Planks charity event and the entertained the crowd at half time with a penalty shootout, during the charity football match in June.

Equality and diversity are key components within the club, and the Foundation is committed to ensuring that the disability teams is provided with every opportunity to grow and succeed.

Academy

Academy

ABERYSTWYTH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB FOUNDATION

Aberystwyth Town Football Club Academy's aim must be to provide a quality coaching programme for talented young footballers delivered by qualified coaches in a safe environment

During a seven-day week the club provides support to a vast range of groups within the community ranging from fun football for children aged from 5 - 11, Local Junior League, Girls and Boys Academies from 11 to 19.

As a Category C academy, the club doesn’t receive any funding from the FAW. Due to stringent FAW requirements the majority user of the 4G pitch is the Club’s Academy and PreAcademy teams. The foundation now provides vital funding support to assist with the cost of pitch hire, winter floodlighting costs and away game travel expenses.

Walking Football

Walking Football

ABERYSTWYTH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB FOUNDATION

Aberystwyth Town Football Club understands the importance of a healthy lifestyle programme. The club has now established a free weekly scheme which is delivered by the charitable arms of the club under the financial guidance of our Foundation.

Every Friday from 17:00 – 18:00 the 3G pitch is available for the local community to participate in an hour’s session of Walking Football.

Summary

The creation of a new charity Foundation, formed to further the Club’s links with the local community has transformed the structure of the club.

The new Charity, known as Aberystwyth Town Football Club Foundation, was registered with the Charity Commission in September 2023, with the following aims:

To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the area of benefit without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, nationality, race or of political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the said inhabitants and the statutory authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for sport, recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants; - to establish, or secure the establishment of, a Community Sporting Facility and to maintain and manage the same (whether alone or in co-operation with any statutory authority or other person or body) in furtherance of the Objects; - to promote such other charitable purposes as may from time to time be determined.

Aberystwyth Town Football established a Foundation to administrate, control and oversee the club’s academies girls and boys, disability team and walking football. The main reason is finance and the ever-increasing cost of continuing to provide community sport. Every week between 300 – 400 children, young people, our disability team, and walking football players use Park Avenue. With the deduction of £90,000 academy funding by the FAW in 2022, the club has struggled financially with its commitment of providing community football.
