Introduction

The Directors, who also serve as Trustees, present their Annual Report for The Della Fish Foundation for the year ended 31[st] March 2024. The report has been prepared in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 and applicable Charity Commission guidance.

The Della Fish Foundation exists to support charitable work rooted in compassion, generosity and practical care, with a particular focus on enabling the promotion, development and advancement of medical and healthcare education for the public benefit.

Objectives and Public Benefit

The Foundation’s charitable purposes are carried out for the public benefit. The Trustees have had due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit throughout the year.

The Foundation exists to make grants to organisations whose work reflects the Foundation’s values, supporting individuals and communities through care, encouragement and opportunity.

Activities and Achievements in 2024

The Trustees aimed to align its activities with the objects of the constitution of the Foundation set our in the CIO which states: the promotion, development and advancement of medical education for the public benefit, with a particular focus on, but not exclusively, postgraduate medical education and the application of Worthwhile Education, in such ways as the Trustees think fit, so as to advance the knowledge and education of the medical profession with a view to improving service and outcomes for patients, service users and their families and carers and the general public.

Activities in 2024 included the first Trustees meeting (25/03/2024) the creation of a website, the opening of a foundation bank account and the appointment of six trustees.

Adverts for a call for grant applications began in December 2024 and closed at the end of February 2025. Twenty eight grant applications were received and after scrutiny and selection

by the appointed trustees 10 small grants were awarded and three large grants.

Financial Review

The Foundation’s income during the year was derived primarily from donations and investment income. Expenditure was directed principally towards charitable grants and essential governance costs.

The Trustees consider the financial position at the year end to be satisfactory and appropriate for the Foundation’s current activities.

Reserves Policy

The Trustees maintain reserves at a level sufficient to ensure the continued operation of - the Foundation and to allow flexibility in responding to future grant making opportunities.

Governance and Management

The Foundation is governed by its Board of Trustees, who are responsible for strategy, oversight and compliance.

The Trustees have reviewed the principal risks facing the Foundation and have put appropriate controls in place to mitigate financial, operational and reputational risks.
