Update from Chair

Introductions from the chair person relating to the last 12 months since the charity was launched. The charity has now been licenced with DofE for the past 12 months. We started with a cohort of 14 young people after Cumbria County Council surrendered responsibility for DofE. Of those 14, 4 young people have completed bronze.

6 young people started on silver, 1 completed and 1 has almost completed Silver. 6 young people also started on Bronze. We have held monthly sessions except for Aug, and December 2024. We have facilitated two expeditions and have commissioned High Points Outdoor. 6 young people completed their bronze expedition in September 2024. 4 young people completed their Silver expedition in August 2024.

We have expressions of interest from 8 young people currently in year 8 interested in starting their Bronze DofE in September when they enter year 9.

Update from Treasurer

Details of our accounts were shared with those in attendance. Chair went through the accounts. Identified sources of funding from Sedbergh Community Trust, Hadfield Trust and Kendal Rotary. We have also received some match funding from Lloyds Bank in relation to Peter’s volunteer hours with CYD.

Or income for the year was £1,424 and our expenditure was £1,103 leaving a balance at the end of the year of £320.21.

Peter Downes has been exploring further funding. Yorkshire Dales National Park has agreed to a grant for the coming year. An application has also been submitted to Sedbergh Community Trust.

There were no questions about the accounts from those in attendance.

Election of committee

All current members present agreed to continue in their respective roles.

Any other business

The chair introduced the topic of the purpose of the monthly meetings going forward. It had been anticipated that young people would attend each month, develop connections with each other and use to discuss their awards, practice skills, fund raise. Invited those in attendance to offer a view of what they want from the charity. Suggestions offered around how we might deliver sessions in the future. Map reading session. Peter has offered to take forward communication via the Heja app. Both have access to this in terms of the parents and the young people. This will allow a schedule/events to be put up and people can state if they intend to attend. Suggested that we meet once every two months as a starting point. 11[th] March, Map reading. 13[th] May First Aid, 8[th] July, pitching a tent/packing your stuff/what food do I bring. 9[th] September for attending to get the new cohort set up. Current cohort do not need the specific help. Rachel will approach Tim from Highpoints Outdoor to enquire if he can attend.

Andrea Burden from the Sedbergh Swimming club has said that she would welcome volunteers from our young people to help at the swimming club.
