Wragby ChEF (Children Eat Free) Charity registration number: 1204499
Annual Report for the period 29th August 2023 to 30[th] September 2024
The trustees are pleased to present their first annual report since Wragby ChEF was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation
The trustees during the financial year and up to and including the date the report was approved were:
Norma Diane Higton Chairman Amanda Jane Warner Treasurer Judith Dixon
All trustees served throughout the period
The principle place of activity during the period was The Old Post Office, Wragby Market Place Wragby Market Rasen LN8 5QU, the charity signed a lease on July 1[st] 2023, for 5 years at a peppercorn rent, previous to this we had been allowed in the property rent free whilst we established a base for the charities activities.
The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) foundation and is governed by a constitution, as amended 18th August 2023; it is managed by 3 trustees who are members of the management committee representing someone in charge of the three areas we are developing Children Pantry and Meals on Wheels, plus a safeguarding reprentative, financial and a project manager charged with getting a commercial kitchen installed.
The charity’s objectives as noted in the constitution are:
The prevention or relief of poverty in Wragby, Lincolnshire and surrounding areas for the public benefit by providing surplus foodstuffs, the provision of cooked meals and other items essential for health and well-being to those people deemed vulnerable or economically disadvantaged and acting as a resource to assist access to information and advice on healthy eating.
In setting our objectives and planning our activities the Trustees have given serious consideration to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit and, in particular, the relief of poverty.
Wragby ChEF feeds school children during the school holidays, Monday to Friday, excepting Bank Holidays. It provides platters of fresh fruit and vegetables, a no sugar added drink, there is usually a hot meals and an alternate cold sandwich is offered, yoghurts if available and a sweet treat. During this period we served 1410 such meals. The food is supplied through purchases from Fareshare and Fareshare Go donations from the supermarkets.
Any surplus food is available in our Community Pantry which we originally gave away free but now request a £1 donation, which is waived if needed at the
committee’s discretion if people are deemed in severe financial distress.936 visits to the Pantry were recorded during the period
ChEF established a Meals on Wheels service during the covid pandemic and after lockdown was over it was decided that there were a number of vulnerable people in the village who would suffer if the service was ended so it was decided to continue. A hot meal is delivered twice a week for a donation of £3 and £1 for a pudding No choice of menu is offered although alternative are made on Fish days, for example.
Meals are delivered by volunteers
During the period we are reporting on some 2145 meals were delivered.
This service doesn’t cover its current costs but was considered too important locally to suspend
The Charity opens a community café on a monday when no other retail establishments in the village offers hot food, the trustees consider we shouldn’t take trade away from local establishments as no one is paid within the charity. We cook food donated as waste by the supermarkets for a donation ‘Pay what you can’ and are supported by a number of regular older people and young families. Any donations go to the upkeep of the charity and to pay for food for the children.
Once the lease was signed planning permission was sort for a commercial kitchen at Wragby ChEF and a number of grants applied for to pay for it The trustees consider the kitchen will enable them to continue the activities of the charity and continue to offer food services for public benefit.
Agreed and signed by the trustees
