The Board of Trustees appraises the Senior Management Team and can make appointments to it as well as dismissals. The Board of Trustees also make sure that we satisfy the regulatory requirements on us as a charity and works with key stakeholders. ## **Recruiting and Appointing Trustees** All our trustees are volunteer, chosen because they all have the diverse range of skills, knowledge and experience that we need to respond to the challenges of today. Stakeholders and partners may nominate trustees and sometimes we will make a personal approach to potential candidates. ## **Governing document** The Light Foundation refers to the charity incorporated organisation with a governing document known as CIO constitution by foundation originally incorporated on 21 August 2023. ## **Responsibilities of Trustees** The annual report and financial statements are prepared according to the relevant law and approved by the trustees. The trustees keep adequate accounting records and they show and explain our transactions. The records also disclose our financial position with reasonable accuracy at any time and enable trustees to ensure that the financial statements comply with Charity Commission Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) 2015. ## **Grant Making Policies** We provide grants to projects if the request meets our charitable objectives and criteria. Project grant making is managed according to a designated process, which is documented in our Operational Risk-Management Framework. We aim to treat all grant applications professionally, equally and fairly. We make the final decision as to eligibility to receive a grant, at our discretion. ## **Public Benefit** We develop strategic plans to make certain that we provide maximum public benefit and achieve our strategic objectives, which fall under purposes defined by the Charity Act 2006. 3 **Objectives and Strategic activities** The objects of the charity are set below: TO ADVANCE THE RELIGION OF ISLAM IN ENGLAND AND WALES FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC THROUGH THE HOLDING OF GROUP MEETINGS AND DISCUSSIONS, CONFERENCES AND PRODUCING AND DISTRIBUTING LITERATURE ON THE LOVE AND TRUTH OF GOD TO ENLIGHTEN OTHERS ABOUT THE PRINCIPLES OF THE ISLAMIC FAITH. THE PROMOTION OF RELIGIOUS HARMONY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC BY: 1. EDUCATING THE PUBLIC IN DIFFERENT RELIGIOUS BELIEFS INCLUDING AN AWARENESS OF THEIR DISTINCTIVE FEATURES AND THEIR COMMON GROUND TO PROMOTE GOOD RELATIONS BETWEEN PERSONS OF DIFFERENT FAITHS; 2. PROMOTING KNOWLEDGE AND MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING AND RESPECT OF THE BELIEFS AND PRACTICES OF DIFFERENT RELIGIOUS FAITHS. During the year 2025, The Light Foundation continued its commitment to strengthening community cohesion, promoting interfaith dialogue, and addressing contemporary social issues through a wide range of events and community initiatives during 2025. Through meaningful engagement across multiple towns and cities, the organisation fostered understanding, inclusivity, and collaboration among diverse communities. During the year, The Light Foundation successfully organised ten events across Preston, Southport, Liverpool, Oldham, and Burnley. In addition, representatives of the organisation were invited as guests to five external events in recognition of their growing contribution towards community relations, interfaith engagement, and social awareness. ## **Achievements & Performances** ## **National and International Recognition** - The Light Foundation was invited to the Houses of Parliament, London, to meet with a Member of Parliament (MP) to discuss the organisation’s work and community initiatives. - One of the organisation’s trustees was invited to Abu Dhabi to speak about his experiences during the Summer Riots in the UK and the importance of community resilience and dialogue. ## **Community and Interfaith Engagement** - The organisation was invited by Lancashire Constabulary to attend “The Big Iftar – Breaking Bread and Breaking Barriers” at Ewood Park, Blackburn, organised by The Lancashire Black Police Association. - Representatives attended the Pride of Sefton Awards at The Grand, Southport, on behalf of Imam Ibrahim Hussein of Southport Mosque, who had remained inside the mosque during the violent summer riots as the building came under attack. 4 ## **Civic and Memorial Invitations** - The Light Foundation was invited to attend a memorial event in remembrance of Srebrenica at Preston Town Hall, hosted by The Right Worshipful The Mayor of Preston, Councillor Sue Whittam. - Representatives were also invited to Lancaster Castle by the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Mrs Amanda Parker JP, His Majesty The King’s representative, to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day and honour the courage and sacrifice of those who served in the Far East during the Second World War. ## **Events and Performances** ## **1. Project: QUESTIONING ISLAM** **Theme:** _Does Religion Have a Part to Play in Grooming Non-Muslim Girls?_ **Location:** Oldham **Date:** Saturday 15th February 2025 _(Postponed)_ This project aimed to facilitate open and responsible dialogue around challenging social issues while encouraging informed discussion and understanding. ## **2. Annual Interfaith Ramadan Dinner – Preston** **Theme:** _The Importance of Community: Turning Strangers into Friends_ **Location:** Preston **Date:** Thursday 6th March 2025 The seventh annual Ramadan dinner brought together individuals from diverse faiths and backgrounds to strengthen community relationships and encourage interfaith understanding. ## **3. Annual Interfaith Ramadan Dinner – Southport** **Theme:** _The Importance of Community: Turning Strangers into Friends_ **Location:** Southport **Date:** Sunday 16th March 2025 This event promoted unity and friendship within the wider community through shared dialogue, hospitality, and cultural exchange. ## **4. Monthly Gatherings** **Theme:** _Understanding the Refugee Experience – A Ukrainian, Palestinian and Syrian Perspective_ **Location:** Preston **Date:** Thursday 19th June 2025 The session provided insight into the lived experiences of refugees and encouraged empathy, awareness, and meaningful conversation. 5 ## **5. Monthly Gatherings** **Theme:** _How Can We Reframe the Narrative About the Refugee Crisis?_ **Location:** Preston **Date:** Thursday 4th September 2025 This discussion explored media narratives, public perception, and constructive approaches towards refugee-related issues. ## **6. Monthly Gatherings** **Theme:** _Hosting Women and Equalities Committee MPs for Community Discussions Following UK Riots_ **Locations:** Southport and Liverpool **Date:** Monday 8th September 2025 Community discussions were facilitated with Members of Parliament to address concerns, experiences, and the social impact following the UK riots. ## **7. Monthly Gatherings** **Theme:** _Celebrating ‘ONE Community’ – Southport Islamic Society Mosque Open Day_ **Location:** Southport **Date:** Sunday 5th October 2025 The open day welcomed members of the public into the mosque environment to encourage understanding, dialogue, and community cohesion. ## **8. Monthly Gatherings** **Theme:** _Is Hostile Politics Endangering Refugees?_ **Location:** Preston **Date:** Thursday 2nd October 2025 This event examined the effects of political rhetoric and policy on refugee communities and social harmony. ## **9. Monthly Gatherings** **Theme:** _Is Britain Better Off Because of Immigration?_ **Location:** Burnley **Date:** Thursday 13th November 2025 The discussion focused on the economic, cultural, and social contributions of immigration within British society. 6 ## **10. Annual Christmas Visit** **Project:** _Annual Christmas Visit to the Children’s Ward at Royal Preston Hospital_ **Location:** Preston **Date:** Saturday 20th December 2025 The annual hospital visit aimed to bring joy and support to children and families during the festive season through gifts, engagement, and community outreach. ## **Financial Review** The charity received sum of **£14,692** in donations from various sources. The charity does not have any reserve policy. No funds are in deficit at the balance sheet.
