Summary of the purposes of the charity set out in its governing document

The aims of Poppleton Under Fives will be to enhance the development and education of children primarily under statutory school age by encouraging parents to understand and provide for the needs of their children through community groups and by: (a) offering appropriate play, education and care facilities, family learning and extended hours groups, together with the rights of parents to take responsibility for and to become involved in the activities of such groups, ensuring that such groups offer opportunities for all children whatever their race, culture, religion, means or ability; (b) encouraging the study of the needs of such children and their families and promoting public interest in and recognition of such needs in the local areas; and (c) instigating and adhering to and furthering the aims and objectives of the Early Years Alliance.

Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts

This charity was set up to receive the entire existing undertaking of the charitable unincorporated association Poppleton Under Fives (charity number 1026408) at an appropriate point in time, so that the existing unincorporated association could be restructured and reorganised into a charitable incorporated organisation. The restructuring will protect its current and future Trustees from the unlimited liability associated with its previous status as an unincorporated association. The change is needed to attract more Trustees and preserve its charitable activities into the future.

From its creation on 16 August 2023 until its first year end of 31 August 2024 the charity was dormant pending the transfer of the entire undertaking of the previous charity, which took place on 1 September 2024.
