Oblertlve$ •nd Artlvltleg
The Trustees are committed to en•blin8 as many people as posslble to worship at ourchurch, and to
become part of our ChU￿h famlly. When plannin8 our actlvitles, the trustees have ¢onsldered the Charity

advancement of reliBion. Our seplices and worship put farf(h into prnctice through prayer and scripture.
music and sacrament. We try to enable ordinary people to lfve out theirfaith a5 part of our church famlly,
through:
Worship and prayer.. learning about th• Gospel, ond developing their knowledge of and trust In
Jesus;
Provlsion of pastoral care for people livlng in the parlsh; and
MlssSon ènd outreach work.
Achlevements and Perfomiance
Worshlp and Proyer
Our church is a partnership providin8 an equal number of An81ican & Methodist services each month, which
together with localty led services ensure that we hold at least one church service in Petrockstowe each week.
The Trustees are keen to offera range of seNices, not only on Sundays, but also during the week, that our
community will find both beneflclal and spiritually fulfilling. These include trnditional services such as
Maundy Thursday, fjood Friday, our reflectlve Evening Prayer sepiice, and times for the village to come
tO8ether to reflect and pray, such as Sorvice of Prayer following the outbreak of hostility in the Middle East.
We continue to welcome youn8 families into our church and have altered two pews to create family friendly
areas within the church. We hold a Family Service every two months and in addition on special occasions
such as Chrlstmas Day these are all well attended.
As wèll as our re8ular servlees, we enable our communityto celebrate and thank God at the milestones of
the journey through life. There has been one Funernl durin8 the yèar but no Baptisms or Weddings, but we
do hold annual Services to celebrate or remember those that have died. been baptized or were married in
the past two years.
Those who are unable to come to Church are not forgotten. In addition to thè strong sense of fellowship that
exists wlthin our church and wider eomrnunity, a team of volunteers tske communion which has been
blessed in church to those that are unable to physically be present.

A Fellowship Group 15 held every fortnight providing a time for exploration of the Gospel as member5
develop their knowledge and trust in Jesus.
On the 14 July 23 all existin8 members of Petrockstowe Methodist Church and those on the Electoral Roll of
St Petroc's Church were recerved Into membership of Petrockstowe Community Church. As a consequence
they became both members of the Methodist Church and the Church of En8land, a5 well as becoming
members of Petrockstowe Community Church ISCLEPI. Atthat date our membership consisted of 37 people,
three bein8 ¢ler8y, six bein8 members of Petrockstowe Methodist Church and twenty eight bein8 on the
Electoral Roll of St Petroc's Church. One name has been added durln8 the year, and none were removed.
Ten members of the church live outside of the parish.
The average Sundayattendance at the 11am SeNice on Sundays was 25, but this number increased
significantly at Easter, Harvest and Christmas.
Deanery and Clrcult
One trustee slts as a memberof the Torrin8ton Deanery (Church of En8l•ndl and two trustees slt as
members of the West Devon Clrcuit (Methodist Church). This provides Petrockstowe Communlty Church
wlth a link with the churches around us, and also with the Diocese (Church of England) & Distrirt (Methodist
Church) as a whole.
Church F(knl¢
The church buildlng Is vested In the Methodist Church and Is rnana8ed by the Trustees for MethodSst
Purposes ITMCPI. Petrockstowe Methodist Church Council acts as managing trustees on behalf of TMCP who
have delegated the responsibility for the maintenance of the buildin8 to P•tro¢kstowe Community Church.
We are delighted that our church buildin81s open from 11:OOarn- 4:00pm each day. Thls provldes an oasls
of peace for anyone in the community to visit.
The presence of asbestos has been causing concern forsome years, It has been agreed to Include a declslon
on a long term solution within a proposed development plan. This plan will also address areas where our
buildin8 is not disability friendly. The Trustees have approved settin8 £15,¢X)O of our opening resenies aside
as a'Designated Fund, to assist wlth the costs of any development work.
No major work was carried out during the year, but fire safety has been improved with the installatlon of a
'panic bolt on the prlmary fire exit. A new sound system has been installed improving the accessibility of
servlces for everyone using the building.
Followlng the fornial closure o15t Petro¢s Church as a place of Worship on the I" October 2023. the
trustees have accepted responsibilityforthe maintenance of the St Petroc's Churchyard and have oversoen
the purchase and installation of a new bench in memory of Rev'd Dr Susannah Metz, who actively supportod
and encouraged the development of our new ecumenical church in Petrockstowe.
In the period between Petrockstowe Community Church bein8 established and the formal closure of St
Petroc's church, expenditure was incurred on repairing the Lighting Conductor following the damage caused
by the lightnln8 Strike earlier In the year.
We are grateful to the Baxter Hall committee who allow us to maintain ourchurch noticeboard on the wall of
the village hall. This provides the detail of our church services and forthcomin8 events.
Mlsslon ond Evanqelism
Helping those in need is a dernonstration of our fatth.
Our weekly Coff•e Morning for parents / carers and toddlers is very popular. With the assistafKe of a grant
from Torridge District Council artivities can be more easily extended to the outdoors, as a shed has been

purchased to store the larger outdoor toys. We support the Torrln8ton Foodbank with regular monthly
donations of items that have been collected by our community. At our HaNest Festival the 8ffts of produce
from our community were auctioned and a donation of £206.50 was made to the Farming Community
Network. After the Remembrance Seprfice we provide an opportunity forthe whole community to come
together and share in soup and a roll.
Our volunteers SUPPOrt the Methodist Church in the provision of Holiday Clubs in the village hall and an
alternatlve to Halloween - Lightque5t.
To help us with the objective of developing our knowledge we organlzed a Walk through the Bible event

We provide a 'Welcome Pacv to new villagers. this is a booklet containing usefijl information and invitln8

Other Artlvltles
The trustees or8anize several fundrnlsing events durbng the course of the year, whilst réising funds for the
church they also play an important role in malntaining our community. They provide opportunlties for the
cornmunity to gather together such as: Cream Tea, Vintage Tea, Cake Stalls, Bingo, Quiz Nl8ht. One of our
regular fundrnisin8 actfvlties Is where our volunteers host a Market Day Coffee Mornin8 at the Hatherleigh
Methodi51 Church.
We stlll maintaln and support the Petro¢kstowe Tower Bell Riniers, •v•n though we do not have our own
bell tower. Our rln8ers now rln8 at several other local churches. Where possible they rin8 for local church
services, weddlngs and funerals. but have also developed Ilnk5 Wlth th8 local schools. Our Handbo11 Ringers,
whilst prlmarily rln8in8 for fun re8ularly visit the Okehampton Memory Café.
Ourwebslte Iwww.
etrockstoweehurch.o
.ukl contains information about us and our actlvltles. Thls
together w6th our Facebook page and WhatsApp group contlnue to be a useful way of communlcating wlth
our parishioners and the wlder cornmunity. They help us to extend a warm invitation for thèm to joln us In
church a¢tlvities. Visitors to the area have found the website useful and have used the webslte to obtaln
details of, and in several case5 then attend, services.
Flnanclal Revlew
Whilst established in July, new bank arrdn£ements were not put in place until October 2023. Up until
Octobèr 2023 ourtwo churches continued to report income and expenditure on a Stand-alone ba515 wlthln
their financlal accounts. Once the bank account was fulty operational all the unrestricted and some restricted
and designated fund5 were transferred as openlng grants from Petrockstowe Methodist Church1£12,729)
and St Petrlx's Church {£15.488) to Petrockstowe Community Church {SCLep).
Ex¢ludln8 the openln8 8fdnts, total recelpts on the unrestrict•d G•neral Fund were £14,911. and payments
from this fund were £16,907, 8iving a deflcit of £1,996 which has been funded through a reduction in
reserrfe5. This is not considered a major issue as the expenditure included £2.385 of non-recurrin8 Iterns.. The
creation of the children's area in church. installation of the new sound system, improvements to the fire exlt,
improvernent to the car park entrance, purchase of specific church accounting software and the faculty fèe
to perrnit Stems to be moved from the old St Petroc's Church Building into Petrockstowe Community Church,
We continue to be a church with a reliance on Fundraising, in that 24% of our income comes directly from
our Fundraising activities. The trustees would like to thank the volunteets that organize and run these events
as they play an important part of church life, financially but a150 provide an important Ilnk with our wider
communlty. We have recently re8lStered with Easy Fundraising, where we reeeNe a donation when our
'5UPPOrters' make purchases on-line.

The trustees agreed to move £15.000 to a 'designated fund, for the future development of the church
building. The proposed development 15 to improve attessibillty to the buiklin8 and better accommodate
both the Methodist and Church of England ways of worship.
As a Local Ecumeni¢al Partnership we contribute to both the Diocesan'common Fund, and the Methodist
Circuit Assessment. We use the cakulation recommended by Churches Together which works on th8
principle that the total to be paid should be comparable to that whlch a sln8le denomlnational church would
be asked to pay, and not attrart either subsidy or unusual burden. The overall amount increased by 7.7% thls
year. So far we have been able maintain our practice of giving 10(YX of the amount requested.
Reserves Pollcv
The Trustoes have resolved to maintain. if possible, a resen4e equating to at least three months unrèstricted
payments to cover emergencies. This equates to £2,500 (The Methodlst A55es5ment and Church of England
Common Funds have been excluded from this calculation as they are considered gifts, should they be
included then the figure would increase to £4.900). At Petrockstowe Community ch￿￿h ISCLEP) we are In
the fortunate position of having sufficlent reserves of over £25,000 which are comfortably in axcèss of the
requiréd l•v•l of reserves.
Safeguardln8
Und•rthe agreement to fonn the Local Ecumeni¢al Partnership, and in line wlth the re¢ommendatlons of
both ehurch bodles, Petrockstowe Community Church has adopted and fully cornplles wlth the Methodlst
Policy and resources forSafeguardin8, DBS Checks and trdining.
This provldes full compliance with the Church of En8kind duty under sectlon 5 ofthe Safeguarding and Clerzv
Dlscipline Measure 2016 (duty to have re8ard to House of 81shops' guldance on safeguardln8 chlldren and
vulnèrable adults).
Volunteer5
One of th• key Stren￿hS withln our chur¢h Is the number of people that want to be Involved. Whether thls Is
In cleaning the church or leadin8 services, readin8 on a Sunday or runnin8 the refreshments at the Monday
Tea & Tots Coffee Mornin& providing the weleorne at the door or one of many other jobs that need dolng-
they are all important in the Ilfe of this church. The Trustees would like to thank all those who volunteer and
work 50 tirelessly to make our Church a lively and vibrant community. and particularly thank our Stewards &
Churchwardens, Chrlstin• Cottle, Jenny Ward, Ann Luxton & David French.
