OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

SUMMARY OF THE PURPOSES OF THE CHARITY AS SET OUT IN THE GOVERNING DOCUMENT

The Charity's objects are restricted specifically, in each case only for the public benefit:

SUMMARY OF THE MAIN ACTIVITIES IN RELATION TO THOSE PURPOSES FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT, IN PARTICULAR, THE ACTIVITIES, PROJECTS OR SERVICES IDENTIFIED IN THE ACCOUNTS.

ZOOPATRUL ANIMAL SHELTER

Zoopatrul, an animal shelter in Irpin, Ukraine, was established to serve as a refuge for animals affected by the war. Irpin, a suburb of Kyiv, experienced devastating damage during a 30-day occupation by Russian forces in the spring of 2022, with nearly half of its buildings—approximately 10,500 structures—damaged or destroyed. Following the city's liberation, donors and volunteers collaborated to establish Zoopatrul as Ukraine's first European-style animal shelter, providing essential care and protection for animals displaced or injured by the conflict.

With support from Urgent Projects, the shelter successfully covered the cost of electricity and heating during the winter months of November 2023, December 2023, and January 2024. As the shelter lacks central heating, it relies on electricity, charged at corporate rates, to maintain warm enclosures for its inhabitants, including newborn puppies and kittens. This funding ensured stable and safe conditions for the animals during the harsh winter months.

Urgent Projects recognises that animals, like humans, require care and protection during crises. By supporting Zoopatrul, the Charity demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that vulnerable animals are not forgotten amidst humanitarian challenges.

FOOD AID DELIVERY TO ACTIVE WAR ZONES IN UKRAINE

Urgent Projects has undertaken a vital initiative to deliver food and essential supplies to families living in active war zones across Ukraine. These efforts focus on towns and villages where civilians face severe hardship and urgently need basic necessities.

One such project targeted Bilopillya, a town in the Sumy region just six miles from the Russian border. This area endures daily shelling, leaving 150 families in dire need of immediate assistance. Urgent Projects provided food boxes containing essential staples such as grains, pasta, canned meat, tea, hygiene products like soap, toilet paper, and wet wipes. These supplies serve as lifelines, offering sustenance and hope to those enduring relentless conflict.

In addition to Bilopillya, Urgent Projects extended similar aid to families in the Donbas and Kherson regions. These initiatives are critical in supporting the most vulnerable populations affected by the ongoing war. Urgent Projects continues to uphold its mission of delivering timely humanitarian assistance in regions of acute crisis by addressing their immediate needs.

This report reflects the Charity's commitment to its mission. It highlights the significant impact of its activities in alleviating suffering and providing essential support to those most affected by conflict and disaster.

We have carefully considered the guidance provided in the Charity Commission's general framework on public benefit when reviewing our aims and objectives and planning our future activities. The trustees place particular emphasis on ensuring that all planned initiatives align with and contribute meaningfully to the Charity's established goals and mission.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

The Charity's work during the reporting period has significantly improved the circumstances of its beneficiaries while contributing to wider societal benefits. By supporting the Zoopatrul animal shelter in Irpin, Ukraine, the Charity ensured the well-being of animals displaced by conflict, funding vital heating and electricity during the harsh winter months to provide safe and stable conditions. Additionally, delivering food and essential supplies to families in active war zones, including Bilopillya, Donbas, and Kherson, provided lifesaving aid to those enduring daily hardships.

These efforts alleviated immediate suffering and fostered resilience, compassion, and unity, demonstrating the transformative power of timely humanitarian assistance in times of crisis.
