What a year Threemilestone and District Young Farmers Club have had!

We started the year with our new members evening, followed by a gun safety and have a go session at Mount Hawke Gun Club, it was a fun day had by all with everyone having a go at shooting clays, some more successfully than others.

We then held our Harvest Festival at Club Hall, an evening at Raze the Roof and laser tag with Falmouth Young Farmers Club. For Halloween we had a messy club night carving pumpkins at Club Hall with a great turnout filling the stage with pumpkins by the end of the night.

Kicking off November we held our Bonfire Night at Alan and Tamara Hooper’s Farm, with thanks to both of them for hosting us as well as Toby and Andy for doing the fireworks. The rest of the month was very busy with a film screening from Gleaning Cornwall and Hungry for Change at Club Hall, Stock Judging practice at Polkinghorne Manor and crafts evening at Club Hall for the Christmas fayre.

December began with a very interesting club night with an introduction to microbit programming at Club Hall, our annual Advisory Christmas Games, followed by carol service and Tinsel ball before the club came together for our Christmas meal at the Shaft Inn to end the year.

Starting the New Year off, we had Ice Skating at the Eden Project, unfortunately, like last year the night did have a few nasty falls out on the ice but otherwise it was a very well attended club night and a brilliant start to the year. We followed on with a quiz night at Club Hall, a talk from For Farmers, bowling, a tour at Smallridge, games night and indoor sports practice.

This led on to our annual tractor run on the 23rd of February and this year was a special one, being our 10th anniversary run. Despite a wrong turn which led to a very narrow lane where I managed to hold the entire run up while we removed my wing mirror to fit past a tree, (thank you Harry for holding onto it while we got past) the run went along nicely. Starting at Carharrack Farm & Country Store, then stopping for lunch at Tregothnan Estate and finishing at Sweets Dairy.

Rosie and Immy also took part in this Years panto with St Columb Young Farmers Club, however despite a brilliant performance and set design our team came in 6th place. Girls surprise boys was a very fun club night for the girls however I can’t say the same for the boys as some of us were set upon with waxing strips and fake tan!

March was another busy month for our club starting with pancake making at Club Hall, this year’s South West area at Weston-super-mare with 14 of our members attending, a very interesting lambing evening at Mount George Farm, Bagging socks at Glyn Crest Farm and our first effort towards planning and designing cubicle for Royal Cornwall.

Moving through the year we had a tour of Kenwyn Vets, followed by a tour led by Joe at Harts Haulage and a tug of war night.

June soon rolled along and with it the Royal Cornwall Show, this years cubicle theme was books and Authors and our book was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. We managed to put together a brilliant cubicle this year however we had very strong competition and unfortunately we were placed 20th.

After the show we had dairy stock judging practice at Glyn Crest Farm, a tour of the Golden Cow Dairy with Falmouth Young Farmers Club and of course, milkshakes on the night! Making the most of the lovely sunshine we had a club beach night at Perranporth Beach, followed by the club helping to set up for Stithians show at the start of July, Kayaking at Loe Beach and Mini Rally at Glyn Crest Farm.

August was another busy month for the club starting with Cornwall YFC Rally, members from the club did a great job participating on the day with representation in most of the competitions on the day. Another well attended club night was segwaying at Newquay, with a BBQ the following week at Porthtowan Beach.

In September, we had our First Cabaret night run by Seth and Julia at Club Hall as well as a search and rescue night. As this year draws to an end, it is a good opportunity to reflect on the community and friendships this club helps grow, through highs and lows this club is truly one to be a proud member of. Thank you to all the members, Officers, Advisory and Trustees who help make this club so special.
