Objectives

We are a small educational charity with the aim of promoting an interest in Welsh battlefields through visiting battlefield sites. A programme of events is issued to Society members and advertised on our Facebook page and website inviting the public to attend. The website (www.welshbattlefelds.cymru) contains a narrative of events that occurred at the sites visited and also articles of interest.

Activities Review

Site meetings are held during the summer months. The summer 2024 programme included

Bryn Glas / Pilleth battle site

Gower Marcher Lords: Lougher and Pen lle’r Gaer Castles and Lougher Roman Fort

Vale of Glamorgan: sites associated with Owain Glyndwr

Twthill battle site

The Society shared a stand, with other historical societies, at the 2024 National Eisteddfod held ion Pontypridd. Information regarding the activities of the Society was on display together with games and quizzes.

The Society attended and helped to organise the annual memorial weekend and commemoration at Cilmeri.

Achievements and Objectives

Through its work the Society has been able to increaser the knowledge and understanding of Welsh Battlefields and its associated history to Society members and others.

Structure, Governance and Management

The Welsh Battlefield Society is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, whose only voting members are is charity trustees. The trustees are appointed annually at the AGM.

Our income comes from members subscriptions.

Financial Review

The Society holds reserves forb long term planning, emergency situations and financial resilience.

The Trustees confirm that the activities of the Society comply with the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public bodies.
