This second year for Folkestone Performing
Arts Company as a registered charity has
seen progress with the aspirations of the
team to see multiple approaches to creative
development work within our community.
This year saw all five strands of our creative
activity ‘up and running’
The Folkestone Performing Arts
Company Ensemble:
During the year, we have seen our
Ensemble group of professionally trained
actors meeting for training and development
of new work, including our first Christmas
show for children,The Winter Wish. The
charity has also recently received our first
Arts Council England grant to support
development work for our original
community-based source material and
professional production ofThe Leech of
Folkestone, enabling work to progress
towards reaching a wider audience which
was delivered in March 2025.
The Community Theatre Sessions:
improvisation and theatre skills
development group.
These open invitation workshops completed
a second full year of building confidence
and developing theatre craft, culminating in
an end of year performance at Sunflower
House of 5 scenes for the public. The group
has met regularly twice a month for ongoing
scene develop and skill training and
benefited from local government ward grant
funding to help with the costs of these
sessions.
Write for Performance: a creative
collaboration with kollectiv gallery which
produced work for other FPAC groups and
will lead to a public performance in July
2025. These sessions started meeting on a
regular basis from March. The result has
been the emergence of over 15 pieces of
original new writing.
Performances of two new pieces also
contributed to the FPAC end of year
performance in December. Again, we are
grateful for the support of local Councillors
for contributing grants to support these
sessions.
Theatre for Development:
This programme involves working with
specific communities and minority groups.
We were grateful to receive funding from
the Enterprise Arts fund for a second series
of drama sessions with asylum seekers and
refugees housed at Napier Barracks.

Achievements and Performance

Reach and impact:In terms of reach,
we are delighted with the early success
of all fve strands. Around 60 people
engaged with our Community Theatre
sessions [up from 45 last year] and the
Write for Performance workshops
involved 14 writers [up from 8 last year]
in developing their work with us.
Feedback from community audiences
and community participants in our
workshops has been both positive and
very informative, helping with our
development, training and strategic
planning for the future. The collaboration
with the Sunfower House, as theatre in
residency, saw the completion of
blackout curtains and a portable lighting
rig being fully funded and installed in
time for the December Holiday
performance. This space has enabled
us to serve our local community better
with workshop and performance activity.
This collaboration continues to go from
strength to strength.
