– Stanmore Chapel Trustees Report 2023/24

Charity name: Stanmore Chapel Charity number: 1204079 Address : Stanmore Chapel, c/o Marsh Lane & Nelson Road, Stanmore. HA7 4HP Trustees: Sheila Jarvis (Treasurer) Christopher Tapp (Chair) James Sant Afia Kwateng Ng Ho Wai Mike Bharwani

Stanmore Chapel is a church which holds Christian services, Bible teaching and study and a Sunday School. Alongside this we offer numerous and varied activities and groups for the benefit of the local community.

Becoming a CIO

During this year the main administrative change to organisation has been to switch over to being a CIO, which becomes effectual at the end of the church year (so from October 1[st] 2024) But for the past year:

Growth

In general we have been continuing to grow and to seek to serve our community. It has been encouraging to add new members and to have increasing numbers of people attending; so much so that we have had to add an extra morning service on a Sunday, not least because of increasing numbers in the Sunday School.

This is encouraging to see in line with our charity objectives and public benefit.

Building work

In terms of the fabric of the building we have had new carpets fitted in the Chapel and also in the office. We have also entirely replaced the roof over the two front rooms where previously it had been leaking.

Events throughout the year

Alongside our regular exercise classes, toddler group, children and youth clubs, we also held a number of one-off or more occasional events during the year. All these events are open to anyone.

Some church officers attend a Chanukah candle lighting event at the Mosaic synagogue in December.

We also took up a Christmas offering for Christians in poverty in Pakistan.

During the month we also ran a ‘Bible in the British Museum Tour’

Groups

We have had three groups running during this year; a Women’s group, a Men’s group and a Cantonese group. These groups have met regularly for a variety of events and activities; from meals, to painting workshops, to craft mornings and games nights.

They are a great way for people to get to know others and for people to try new things! We are hoping to add a new group for those in their 20s & 30s in the near future.

Finances

During the year the charity had an income of £137,072.80. This incomes comes primarily from giving received from members of the church as well as income received from the hiring out of the church buildings. This is done on a regular basis to a variety of different users including a nursery school, a ballet school and two Romanian church congregations.

The expenditure for the year was £123,086.93.

So for the church year 2023-24 we had a surplus of £13,985.87. And at the end of the period we had a balance of £119,062.70.

We are planning to potentially increase the size of the staff team and also to look to undertake future building works so this carry forward is in line with our reserve policy and expected future expenditure.
