EMERGING VOICES FILM FOUNDATION Annual report 06 APRIL 2024 - 05 APRIL 2025
Continued charitable objects:
The objects of the CIO are to promote the art of film for the public benefit by providing grant funding and mentoring support to emerging filmmakers from under-represented groups in the UK film industry; and by providing opportunities for the public to experience films made by filmmakers from under-represented groups in the UK film industry through support to public screenings.
For the purpose of this clause, under-represented groups in the film industry include people from the global majority, disabled people, women and non-binary people, people from the LGBTQIA+ community, people from lower socio-economic groups and those from outside London.
Trustees:
Matthew Lawes-Wickwar Jen Lim Lily Howkins
Achievements:
-
2x emerging filmmakers from under-represented groups in the UK film industry were both awarded £1,000 grants, provided mentoring support and £1,000 kit hire credit from Shoot Blue and Progressive Broadcast.
-
We raised donations of £2,745.84 from 4x executive producers to fund the grants and operations of the charity.
-
We engaged 2x mentors to help the winning filmmakers.
-
We secured £2,000 in kit hire credit from Shoot Blue and Progressive Broadcast.
-
We held our first screening at The Castle Cinema with 60 attendees. This was made possible through sponsorship from 2x executive producers.
Risks:
-
The main funder for the charity, Other Brother Studios Ltd, has decided to stand down from making donations moving forwards and the chair Matthew Lawes-Wickwar has decided to stand down from his role. The charity will be approaching other potential chairs to see if they want to keep the charity going.
-
The Charity will continue to seek donations from Executive producers but the charity has identified this as a risky area to create growth and financial stability and ideally needs to pivot it’s purpose to be more inclusive when it comes to supporting as many people as possible and then applying for National Lottery funding.
Opportunities:
-
We can now apply for a Google Grant of $10k Google Ads a month, this will help to raise profile
-
of charity and get the charity in-front of under-represented groups.
-
One of the charities donors has made a suggestion on how to pivot the charity and it’s purpose so that it is eligible to seek National Lottery funding support.
