## **TRUSTEES REPORT**

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**

**Charitable Purpose** : For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of cats in need of care and attention and, in particular, to provide and maintain rescue homes or other facilities for the reception, care and treatment of such animals, and to educate the public in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among cats.

**Activities undertaken:** Our core work has continued to focus on the rescue and rehoming of cats and kittens who find themselves in need.

Upon intake, all cats and kittens are placed into foster care where they receive dedicated, individual attention. We ensure that every cat is seen by a veterinary professional and receives appropriate treatment, including vaccinations, flea and worm treatment, and neutering/spaying where required.

Our rehoming process is thorough and designed to ensure the best possible match between cat and adopter. We carefully review expressions of interest and conduct comprehensive home checks before any adoption takes place.

In addition to rescue and rehoming, we actively scan both deceased and live/injured cats reported to us, in an effort to reunite them with their owners.

## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE**

**Summary of achievements last 12 months:** In 2024 we rescued 184 cats and kittens (including 16 who were born in our care). Of these, at the end of the year 164 have been successfully adopted; 1 had been adopted and died shortly afterwards; 2 had been adopted and returned to us; 3 had been put to sleep on veterinary advice; 1 had been trapped, neutered and returned, 5 were still with us; 6 were in long term foster; 2 had been still born.

This does not include cats that were already in our care at the start of the year.

**Impact on beneficiaries:** We have made a meaningful difference to the lives of both the animals and the individuals and communities we support.

Many of the cats and kittens we helped were in urgent need of medical care, shelter, and socialisation. These cats received veterinary attention, appropriate nutrition, and a safe environment in which to recover, preparing them for a new life in loving homes.

Our efforts to reunite lost cats with their families have brought relief and joy to both pets and owners. Through microchip scanning, social media outreach, and collaboration with local communities, we have successfully reunited lost cats with their owners, including one cat who had travelled over 150 miles from their home and who we were able to reunite with their owner.

We offered advice to current and prospective cat owners on topics such as responsible pet ownership, feline behaviour, and health.

By carefully matching cats with suitable adopters, we helped ensure the long-term well-being of the animals in our care. Each adoption is accompanied by support and education, promoting lasting, positive outcomes for both the cats and their new families.

**Public benefit:** By rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming stray, abandoned, and surrendered cats, we have prevented animal suffering and promoted the humane treatment of animals.

Unneutered, stray, or feral cat populations can contribute to public health issues, including the spread of parasites and disease. By rescuing and ensuring all cats have been neutered before adoption or release, we have helped control these populations, reducing risks to both humans and other animals in the community.

Our guidance to the public on responsible pet ownership, cat care, and lost pet recovery contributes to long-term improvements in animal welfare and reduces the likelihood of cats being neglected or abandoned in the future.

## **Financial Review**

The charity does not own any land or property. Our primary overheads consist of the rental of our lockup storage unit, secured under a 12-month agreement, and the ongoing care and welfare of the cats currently in our protection.

We are committed to maintaining financial stability and aim to retain reserves equivalent to six months of running costs. However, due to the unpredictable nature of veterinary and carerelated expenses, sustaining this level of reserves can be challenging. To manage this, the trustees carry out monthly reviews of our financial position and initiate additional fundraising activities when necessary to meet operational demands.

It is important to note that none of the trustees or volunteers have reclaimed personal expenses, reflecting our strong ethos of directing all available funds towards animal care and charitable activities.

For the period covering July 2023 to December 2024, our accumulated accounts show that veterinary fees totalled **£43,477** , while other direct care costs—including food, litter, treatments, enrichment toys, and bedding—amounted to **£19,267** . Together, these essential welfare costs represent **81.6%** of our total expenditure, highlighting our ongoing commitment to prioritising the health and wellbeing of the animals in our care.

## **STATEMENT BY THE CHAIR OF CAFO RESCUE**

As Chair of Cafo Rescue, I am incredibly proud of all that we have achieved over the past 18 months. The dedication, compassion, and tireless work of my fellow trustees and our amazing team of volunteers continue to inspire me every day.

Their commitment to the welfare of every cat that comes into our care is unwavering, and it is because of their efforts that we have built such a strong and positive reputation within the local community. Whether through hands-on rescue work, fundraising, fostering, or behind-thescenes support, each person involved plays a vital role in making Cafo Rescue the trusted and respected charity it is today.

Thank you all for your continued belief in our mission and for helping us make a real difference.
