REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES

FOR THE PERIOD 18 JULY 2023 TO 31 AUGUST 2024

The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the period 18 July 2023 to 31 August 2024. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and aims

The charity operates under an approved Governing Document, which outlines that the primary purpose of the Church is to promote the Christian faith according to Baptist principles. The Church may also engage in educational initiatives and pursue other charitable activities within the United Kingdom or internationally.

In fulfilling the Objectives, the Church engages in a range of activities either on its own or with others that vary from time to time, with activities being initiated, expanded or closed, as appropriate. Our activities include but are not restricted to:

The regular activities of the Church can be viewed on our website: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064956121227

Public benefit

The Trustees have reviewed the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit and are confident that our activities clearly demonstrate the significant benefit we provide to the public. From our mission work to our community engagement, IBBC continues to serve both its congregation and the wider public in meaningful ways.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Charitable activities

Since August 2023, we are grateful to share that IBBC has been officially registered as a charity, and we have seen steady growth in our community. From an initial attendance of 30 adults and 8 children, we are now blessed to have an average of 50 adults and 15 teenagers attending regularly. Additionally, 10-15 people join us online each Sunday via our live broadcasts.

We are also thankful for the diversity in our congregation. Two English nationals now attend our services on a semiregular basis, adding to our vibrant community. One particularly inspiring member is a dear sister in Christ who faithfully attends every Sunday, despite being wheelchair-bound and living in a care home. She is transported by the care home's vehicle and is always accompanied by a nurse. Over time, she has brought different nurses with her, and on several occasions, her four children have joined as well. In response, we have arranged a Bible study at their home, and her eldest son has now started attending church with her regularly.

Our Sunday School has also experienced growth, with 14-16 children participating each week. Due to this increase, we need a larger space, as we now divide the Sunday School into age groups to better cater to the children's needs. In addition, our community

has been blessed with new life-three of our young professional nurses have recently given birth, and another three are expecting babies this year.

February 2024: Vacation Bible School

Our annual Vacation Bible School in February 2024 was a tremendous success, with 55 children in attendance. These children came from the surrounding neighbourhoods near Southampton General Hospital. The program ran for three half-days during the week, offering the children an enriching experience during their school break. They enjoyed Bible stories, engaging games, and singing Gospel music. We also provided snacks and lunch for all 55 children, supported by a dedicated team of 15 staff members, including cooks, drivers, and teachers.

We are truly thankful for all the blessings and growth we are experiencing at IBBC, and we look forward to what God has in store for us in the coming year.

In April 2024, we held our very first IBBC youth camp in the New Forest. Despite the rain, it was an incredible experience for our young people. They spent time learning Bible stories, playing traditional Filipino games, building friendships, and enjoying fellowship. Our young professionals, many of whom are nurses working at Southampton General Hospital, generously took three days of annual leave to teach and assist at the camp. The church provided meals for 27 teenagers and 12 volunteer staff, ensuring the camp met government health and safety standards. This memorable event brought our youth together in faith and community.

Our IBBC Kent mission outreach has now been going strong for three years. The group continues to grow steadily, with an average attendance of 25-30 people each week. We are encouraged by the progress and look forward to further growth in the coming years.

Last August, we had a church family camp in Norfolk, joined by fellow churches from London and Leeds. We have an attendance of 150 campers, with guest pastors from the Philippines preaching and teaching God's Word to our teenagers and the wider congregation. This camp has been a time of spiritual refreshment and fellowship.

We are also blessed to see our church becoming increasingly diverse, with a growing number of attendees from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities, particularly from Africa. IBBC is truly a multi-ethnic and vibrant congregation, reflecting the richness of God's global family.

Home, overseas and cross-cultural mission

We are blessed to continue supporting one missionary from our church, who is working with six families in Kent, UK. Additionally, we provide ongoing monthly support to three Bible Baptist missionaries in the Philippines, one in Cambodia, and offer financial assistance to mission efforts in Zambia through IBBC. This support is made possible through the generous, voluntary donations of our members here in Southampton. We also provide additional financial aid in response to urgent needs caused by typhoons and other natural disasters, ensuring our global partners receive timely help in moments of crisis.

Discipleship

In line with our commitment to whole-life discipleship, our small groups have evolved into what we now call Sunday School. These groups aim to nurture and challenge participants to be intentional disciples in every area of life. This shift is reflected in the dedication of our volunteer Bible counsellors and Sunday School teachers. We currently have 15-20 individuals trained and equipped in evangelism and counselling who actively engage in follow-ups and visitation each week, helping to grow and strengthen our community.

Fellowship

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES

FOR THE PERIOD 18 JULY 2023 TO 31 AUGUST 2024

Fellowship has thankfully returned to normal after the disruptions caused by COVID-19, and we have seen an increase in home visits. We continue to connect with members in various ways, including phone calls and letters. Our commitment to visit the housebound, lonely, bereaved, and those in hospital remains a core focus of our ministry. The flower ministry, has been a meaningful expression of care and comfort, and it occupies much of the time and energy of those involved.

Our ministry to older members has also been gradually resuming. While many older individuals were initially hesitant to return to in-person gatherings due to their vulnerability, most meetings have now returned to normal, though some older members have not yet rejoined.

Both our Ladies' and Men's groups, which have been running for several years monthly, continue to be very popular among those aged 30-60. These gatherings serve both fellowship and missional purposes, providing a welcoming environment where the gospel can be shared. Several non-Christian women regularly attend the Ladies' group, reflecting the outreach potential of these meetings.

We also hold a weekly prayer meeting every Wednesday, hosted in the homes of various members who volunteer to open their doors for evening fellowship. These meetings rotate from house to house, depending on who is available to host, and typically draw between 20-30 participants. When in-person meetings are not possible, we continue to meet via Zoom, with even greater attendance ranging from 35-50 people. Our IBBC Kent congregation regularly joins us through Zoom, maintaining our connection across different locations.

Children and Family's Ministry

Our work with children up to the age of 16 remains an integral part of our church's mission. Through the dedication of our volunteer Bible counsellors and teachers, we continue to conduct Bible studies, follow-ups, and home visits. Our goal is to encourage and nurture our young participants by equipping them with biblical knowledge and inspiring them to attend church and Sunday School. Additionally, each year we host a Vacation Bible School (DVBS) during the February school break, a tradition we have upheld since the church was founded in 2011. We have also established a monthly Young People's Fellowship on Sunday afternoons, providing another opportunity for our youth to grow in faith and fellowship.

Social action

Our church has a robust social action program, which has expanded significantly since we recently registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). Even before official registration, we were actively engaged in social and charitable work, and this remains a key aspect of our ministry. Many of our church members are healthcare professionals working at the University Hospital of Southampton or as care workers, and they generously provide both practical, spiritual and emotional support to those in need within our community. This includes visiting elderly individuals who are housebound, assisting mothers with young children, and offering transportation for hospital appointments and other essential needs.

Last Christmas, our church visited seven nursing and residential homes to sing carols and bring joy to the residents. In addition to these visits, our members are frequently seen in city centres distributing Gospel literature and singing Gospel music. We also provide spiritual and emotional counselling and, when able, offer financial assistance to those in need, always sharing the love of God and the Good News.

Many individuals have expressed their appreciation for our outreach, with some even taking photos with us as a token of their gratitude. Several of these people have since attended our church services. All our church activities, including Vacation Bible School, Youth Camp, and Sports Day, are made possible by the voluntary donations and support of our faithful members. Each event is carried out for the glory of God and reflects the spirit of generosity that defines our community.

In addition to these efforts, our members have graciously supported church weddings, contributing decorations and catering services for young professionals who choose to get married in the UK. These acts of kindness embody the spirit of giving and charity that lies at the heart of our congregation's mission.

Support Services

Our support services play a crucial role in ensuring that IBBC remains a safe, legal, and accessible space, while also being financially sustainable and well-equipped to support our mission. This includes overseeing everything from building maintenance

and finances to safeguarding, health and safety, and other compliance issues. We are grateful to have Christian members who are DBS-checked and who contribute to these essential services. Since our founding ten years ago, we have consistently trained First Aiders and ensured annual competency in safeguarding and health and safety practices. While we've experienced significant increases in utility and rental costs, we are preparing for further rises in the future. Additionally, we are prayerfully planning and preparing for the possibility of acquiring our own church building, trusting in the Lord's provision.

Connections

IBBC is an active member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the Evangelical Alliance. We also participate in Churches Together initiatives, joining with other local Baptist churches for fellowship and prayer. This includes activities such as open-air worship services when permitted, providing us with opportunities to connect with the wider Christian community.

Safeguarding

We take safeguarding very seriously at IBBC. The church has established robust systems to ensure that all individuals working with children and vulnerable adults are appropriately vetted through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Safeguarding policies and procedures are firmly in place, with designated persons and a safeguarding trustee appointed by the Church Members to oversee these critical matters.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Year in review

IBBC continues to primarily raise the funds necessary to carry out its mission through the generosity of its own members and congregation. In 2024, we saw a modest increase in unrestricted income. Our balance sheet reflected a growth in net assets from £3,000 to £4,000 as of September 31, 2024. Additionally, the General Fund increased from £3,500 to £4,500, indicating that the church's overall financial health remains strong. We finished the year with reserves above our target range, ensuring stability for the future.

As part of our commitment to the wider Christian community, IBBC continues to make monthly grants of £1,000 to national and international Christian organisations whose aims align with our own charitable purpose. These contributions reflect our desire to support Christian initiatives both locally and globally.

The Church relies heavily on the commitment of its members, who volunteer across all areas of church life. Many of these activities operate with little or no financial burden yet contribute significantly to fulfilling the Church's mission. This spirit of volunteerism is a cornerstone of our community, enabling us to advance our objectives with both dedication and efficiency.

The financial outcomes for the year, along with a summary of our accounting policies, are outlined in the accompanying financial statements. As part of our financial stewardship, we adhere to a Reserves Policy designed to maintain 3-6 months of operating expenses, approximately £3,500 per month, resulting in a target range of £30,000 to £40,000 in our Accumulated Fund. A balance falling below £45,000 would prompt a thorough review of our financial strategy. The Trustees have recently reviewed this policy and are confident that our reserves, combined with projected income, are more than adequate to ensure the Church operates effectively in the coming year.

Additionally, the Trustees have conducted a risk assessment, identified major risks and ensuring policies are in place to mitigate them, giving us confidence in the Church's stability and preparedness for any challenges.

FUTURE PLANS

Looking ahead to the 2024/25 financial year, our key priorities include:

  1. Continuing to foster a culture of intentional, whole-life discipleship by implementing the outcomes of our 2024 discipleship initiatives. The success of Operation Go-Together, a day of teaching and encouragement, has inspired us to plan a repeat event in 2025.

  2. Expanding our online Bible School, which has already enrolled four new students who are also serving as volunteer staff. This initiative aligns with our vision for the Church and supports the growth of our children's ministry. Furthermore, our young people are stepping into leadership roles, serving as pulpit leaders, song leaders, and Sunday school teachers, reflecting the development of the next generation within our congregation. These plans represent our ongoing commitment to spiritual growth, leadership development, and community outreach, ensuring that the Church remains vibrant and mission-focused in the year ahead.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Governing document

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a constitution of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

Organisational Structure and Decision-Making Process

Membership of the Church is governed by its Constitution, which typically requires individuals to have been publicly baptised upon profession of faith in Jesus Christ. However, those who have undergone other forms of baptism may also be accepted into full membership at the discretion of the Church Members' Meeting, based on their public profession of faith. The Church maintains an open membership policy.

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES

FOR THE PERIOD 18 JULY 2023 TO 31 AUGUST 2024

Ordinary Church Members' Meetings are held at least a minimum 5 times annually, providing an opportunity to review routine matters, including Church membership, budget approval, and proposals from Charity Trustees or Church Members regarding the Church's development and the advancement of its mission. Additionally, an Annual General Meeting is convened once a year during a Special Church Members' Meeting, where annual accounts and reports are presented, and Charity Trustees, along with the Secretary and Treasurer, are elected or re-elected. Special Church Members' Meetings may also be called as needed to address significant matters, such as the appointment or dismissal of ministers, property-related issues, or other concerns deemed important by the Charity Trustees. Following the disruptions caused by COVID-19, regular in-person meetings have resumed this year.

Charity Trustees are selected from among the Church Members, with the maximum number of Trustees determined periodically by the Special Church Members' Meeting. In this Church, the Minister(s), Secretary, Treasurer, and Leadership Team collectively serve as Charity Trustees, overseeing the Church's daily operations, including its financial and legal responsibilities.

All Church Members are encouraged to actively participate in both the spiritual and practical aspects of furthering the Church's charitable objectives. This is often facilitated through teams led by members of the Ministry (Leadership) Team. In addition to the Ministry Team, other teams focus on areas such as Christmas Cantata, Pastoral Care, Youth and Children's Ministries, and Administration. Across various groups, there are approximately 10-20 volunteers engaged in the Church's life and ministry. Relevant matters may be brought to the Church Members' Meeting by the Trustees for input or raised by Members for further consideration by the Trustees. While the Constitution allows for decisions to be made by majority vote, the Church strives to achieve consensus in its decision-making process.

We are thankful that, as of August 2023, IBBC has employed a full-time Minister to serve the Church.
