REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES

FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024

The Trustees have pleasure in submitting the Report and Accounts for the year ended 31 December 2024.

Objects of the charity

The charity, which is a church, is governed by a constitution and is constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. The charity's principal objects, as set out in its governing document, are:

a) The advancement of the Christian faith according to the principles of the Baptist denomination.

b) Advancing Christ-centred relationships through befriending, education, advice and pastoral support, including the support of local charitable and non-profit organisations.

Summary of the charity's main activities and achievements

To further the above objects and vision, the charity's main activities and achievements were as follows:

To live out the charity's mission statement 'Knowing Jesus and Making Him Known' by solid bible teaching, meaningful worship and equiping people for everyday Christian service.

Showing love in the way Jesus would, by befriending those vulnerable within society, using the resources available to us, especially the church building, The Armstong Centre, to meet and alleviate social isolation in the elderly, those with emotional traumas, and hardships. These have been met using programmes such as Warm Welcome and a Seniors lunch club where people can me meet socially, gain pastoral support, and obtain a Christian perspective on life's issues.

The successful winding up of the excepted charity, Beverley Baptist Church, which had run for 30+ years including its final year where it ran alongside Beverley Baptist, the CIO, during a transition phase from one to the other.

Amongst other members, much of this was supported by the fixed-term placement of a Community Chaplain (a Newly Accredited Minister in the Baptist denomination). A post originally made possibly by a generous grant from the Baptist Insurance Company.

In planning the activities the Trustees have applied the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity Commission.

Financial review

This is the first period Beverley Baptist has operated as a CIO. The previous excepted charity, Beverley Baptist Church, ran alongside the CIO and a significant proprtion of the income and expenditure was realised by that entity during this accounting period. The cash held by the charity at this period end is £119,962, of which £114,102 is unrestricted and can be used for any charitable purpose.

Page 2

Reserves policy

The trustees have determined that the charity should aim to hold unrestricted cash of no less than £11,500 (which equates to the calculated staff notice periods in unrestricted expenditure) so that the charity could continue to operate should income and/or expenditure vary adversely. At the year end, the charity held unrestricted cash of £114,102 for the purpose of remaining solvent.

Governance

Responsibility for setting policy and for making operating decisions rest with the trustees who meet regularly to monitor the activities of the charity. Some day to day operations are delegated to the manager of the The Armstrong Centre, with guidance provided by the Project & Finance Group (PFG). New trustees are recruited and appointed by the membership and require a majority vote as per the conditions set out in the constitution. .

Organisational structure

Beverley Baptist is a member-led CIO governed by a constitution. The membership vote for leaders to serve for a 3 year term on the Leadership Team (as a Charity Trustee). The church/charity employs three members of staff, one of whom is a Newly Accredited Baptist Minister, employed as the Community Chaplain. This role is given equal responsibility for leadership and charity trusteeship.

Relationships with other charities and related parties

Beverley Baptist has close ties with The Armstrong Centre (Beverley) Ltd, a company limited by guarantee. This company is used to provide services which add to Beverley Baptist's charitable aims.

Risk statement

The charity is exposed to various risks - be they operational, financial or reputational. The trustees review the charity's activities regularly to identify significant risks and, where possible, they take appropriate measures to mitigate those risks.

All matters of safeguarding, health and safety, pastoral wellbing and financial control, to name but a few, are regularly monitored by the Safeguarding Lead, Leadership Team (charity trustees), the Project and Finance Group, employees of the charity and various members with expertise and experience in the given area.

Responsibilities of trustees

Charity law requires us as Trustees to prepare financial statements for each accounting year which record the receipts and payments of the charity for the year.

We are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable us to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011.

We also have a responsibility to safeguard the assets of the charity and to take reasonable steps to prevent fraud or any other irregularities.

1 Accounting policies

The accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis and comprise a statement that shows the charity's receipts and payments, a statement that summarises the charity's assets and liabilities and related notes. The accountancy profession have determined that only accounts prepared in accordance with applicable accounting standards present a 'true and fair' view and, as these receipts and payments accounts have not (and cannot) be prepared in accordance with accounting standards, these accounts do not present (and are not intended to present) a 'true and fair' view of the charity's financial activities and state of affairs.

General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity. Designated funds comprise unrestricted funds that have been set aside by the trustees for particular purposes. Restricted funds are donations which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors; they include donations received from appeals for specific activities or projects.

The Benevolent Fund, whilst technically a designated fund is considered to be restricted so as to use it carefully. Its purpose is to provide financially to those in need, or to donate anonymously to the donor. Under no circumstances can Gift Aid be claimed against any donation to this fund. Donations have to be specifically identified as Benevolent Fund donations and due diligence is carried out to ensure no donations contravene any of our policies, especially that of money laundering. Use of said fund can be relatively confidential - not every charity trustee will know where money is being used but the Treasurer and at least one other Trustee must approve any payment made and declare the balance of the fund at regular intervals throught the accounting period.

The restricted Building Fund has been depleted during this accounting period, and therefore removed until required at a later stage.
