The Trustees have the pleasure in presenting this report for the Skills Coach Foundation for the year end 31[st] March 2025. 

## **The objectives of the charity are to** : 

- The preservation and protection of good health among children aged 6-12 from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds, and their families, resident in London by establishing collaborative local networks to provide: 

a)  high quality, affordable physical activity provision and sports coaching designed to reduce inactivity and improve physical and mental health and wellbeing; 

b)  targeted interventions designed to tackle food insecurity and ensure access to sufficient nutritious food. 

## **The year in review** 

The charity is very much in its infancy and as such has had no financial activity in the year ending March 2025.  It is very much in its planning phase to ensure that it is on a strong footing to enable it to launch its programmes with the ambition that the charity is successful and sustainable.  This includes implementing all the necessary policies and procedures, developing a fundraising strategy and devising an number of pilots to test the feasibility of the current trustees proposal for achieving the charity’s objects. 

Over the past year, the charity has conducted preliminary research into various programmes, activities, and potential interventions to achieve its objectives. During this process, several challenges to programme delivery emerged. Notably, the recent announcement of government funding for after-school care has reduced the need for one of the charity’s planned initiatives. In response, the charity has shifted its focus to identifying alternative programmes and interventions that effectively support the most vulnerable families and young people. 

Despite new government funding, physical activity to improve health and wellbeing remains a significant challenge within socially disadvantaged communities in London. Barriers such as limited access to safe and affordable facilities, lack of awareness, cultural factors, and financial pressures continue to prevent many families and young people from engaging in regular exercise. These 



challenges are often compounded by broader issues of poverty and competing priorities. As such, the charity’s aims and objectives remain vital in addressing these persistent inequalities, providing targeted support and inclusive programmes that reach those most in need. 

The Skills Coach Foundation does not employ and dedicated staff but relies upon the volunteers being the trustee board and the founder of the charity. 

## **Objectives for the coming year** 

In response to identified challenges, the charity has developed a new and innovative programme: **BEANS (Bringing Exercise and Nutritional Support)** . The BEANS initiative is designed to support children and families, particularly those who are inactive or economically disadvantaged. This targeted programme focuses on engaging children within the school environment, igniting a passion for physical activity. 

The programme aims to focus on the physical activity element, school interventions and community partnerships over the coming year. While providing essential nutritional support is a longer term goal for the charity, this will evolve at a later date once the charity has developed strong relationships with schools, communities and families within the areas it serves. BEANS aims to create a sustainable pathway that extends beyond the school day, enabling children to access affordable, local activities in their communities after school, on weekends, and during school holidays. By fostering a lifelong love for movement and promoting healthy habits, the initiative aims to improve long-term health and wellbeing for both children and their families. 

Over the next year, the charity aims to develop a comprehensive needs-based assessment framework to ensure our work targets the most vulnerable communities effectively. We will continue engaging with potential partner schools to refine the scope of our programmes, build strong partnerships, and establish a clear roadmap for launch. Our goal is to collaborate with 6 to 8 schools by December 2026, supporting hundreds of children in accessing high-quality physical activity programmes. These initiatives will be privately funded through partnerships with various organisations identified by our trustees and fundraising team. Once funding is secured, we will implement our delivery plan and establish robust processes for measuring and reporting the programme's impact. 



## **Structure, Governance and Management** 

The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation governed by its memorandum and articles of association (company number CE032959).  It is a charity registered with the Charity Commission, 1203973. 

The board of trustees are responsible for setting strategies and policies for the charity and ensuing that these are implemented.  They will also monitor activity against the objective in the articles of association, any risk assessments and policies and approval of the annual plans and accounts. 

The responsibility for fulfilling obligations as a registered charity also fall on the board of trustees. 

Day to day management of the charity is undertaken by the founder.

## **Trustees’ responsibilities in relation to the financial statements** 

The charity trustees are responsible for preparing a trustees’ annual report and financial statements. The charity is very much in its infancy and as such has had no financial activity to the year end 30[th] April 2024.  As such the charity currently holds a zero reserve.  This will be reviewed once the charity becomes financially active.
