England and Wales on the 20th November 2000. Charitable status for tax pur￿$¢$ was granted by HM
Revenue & Customs under Tef¢ren¢e X1148510 with eff￿1 from 21st October 2(KKI. The address of the

CHARITABLE OBJEcfivES
The main objectives of the charity continu¢ to bc the relief of poverty? sickness and dtstress, and the
advancement of education in the Kyuso Sublounty of Easlen) Province Kenya. There have been no
changes to the objectives of the charity during th¢ year. The trnstees consider that the best long terni
method of achieiing the aim of tackling world pov¢rty is through p￿mOting sustainable communities.
The charity concen￿teS its work in particular regions and aims to enable communities in those regions
to b￿orne as self-sufficient as possible. Although the charity is named after one of the Iribes of Kenya,
it gives assistance to ally individual living in its working a￿a. regardless of tribe. race, colour, religion,
creed, age. gender. or sexual orienlatio

when d￿ld1Thg what activities the cljaTity should undertake.
REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEvEmE￿s
4F has wntiDued its ¢i)aritabl¢ projects in most are&s. With tlLe continued support of all our donors
we managed fimding assistance to nwiy exceptionally PCM)r families with education needs, medical
problems. eye ¢ar¢ and the supply of clean drinking water and sAnitation. We were again privileged to
receive fimding from Robert Frith Optometrists. Xytal Health Management, Coles-medlock Trust,
Guernsey Overseas Aid and Development Commission. Festival Medics and many generous individual
donations. The Trust¢¢s confirni that no grants r¢¢eivcd carri￿ conditions requiring audit of ￿coUnts.

Educatlon
AAF ¢ontinues its support for children of poor families and orphans with primary school levies. The
charity has also c(mtinued its support of a few academically gifted students through secondary and
College education bursari¢s. supported by individual private donations. At present. we support a girl at
nursing college in Nairobi and a boy al ¢al¢ring college in Tseikuru.
We continue toprovidehelp and financial assi8tancetoNgaRie Special School forchildrenwith complex
learning and physical needs. This support has included building a workshop block, kindly SpOnwr￿ by
Xyt81 Health Management complete with work b¢n¢hes and all necessary materia]s. Refi￿lShmeN of
th¢ ￿ceSSIble ti)ilets complete with a cowrete access p8th foT wheelchairs.
We continue to monitor Ivonangya Secondary School, where in recent y¢ars we have provided many
facilities, including classr(x)ms, athnin block, toilets and a kitchenldininglass¢mbly hall. The major
probl¢m is no ¢ledti¢ity, which the Government have been promising for some time, we will be
reviewing the siluali(pn duTing our visit later this year.
After an evaluation of I￿al schools in our aT¢a. the Trustees decided to focus our assistance on Matooni
Junior Secondary School, the teaching staff and pupils at this School were particularly motivated and
strn¢tUr￿. Aftermany visits it was decided to tEnovatelwo large, dilapidated classrooms. one becoming
a science block. New floors, windows, doors, painling. desks and chairs were provAded. Ikning a visit
in January a new rninwater tank complete with gutteiing and pipewoTk was installed to the Pre-school
classroom and plans were drawn for a n¢w kitchen and dining Ikall complete with a quotation from our
local builder. A grant has been obtained from Guernsey Oversea5 Aid & Developm¢nt Commission and
work has now commenced on site.
Health
Th¢ family cliTLiC and Health Care Centre Tei-wa-yesu situated in Gai near the town of Kyuso which
AAF has supported for many years. has continued to fimction well. In January a vehicle was purchased
and conv¢rted to enable ihc Clinic to use as an ambulance, hearse, and people carrier. It will a]so be
used to transport the Medi￿ team during their visits. We a￿ extremely grntefijl to Festival Medics for
swnsoriDg this vehicle. The medical team under the supervision of Dr Jarnes Buckle mad¢ visits in
October 2023 a]Ki again in Mawh 2024.
During the Ma￿h mission Dr James Buckle. Dr Richard Moore and Nurse Heather Almond began the
refijrbishment of the maternity ward. This Project, fimded by Xytal Health and Festival Medics was
completed injuly. We are all very grateful to Dr Richard M(x)re. who continues his support lo the Clinic
and AAF. The ￿fill￿]shed 0￿ratIng Theatre completed last y¢ar is used mainly for minor surgery>
Caesarean and catardct owations. li is saving many long journeys for exp¢¢tant mothers and no doubt
many young liv&8. AAF financially support the ¢linie tlwough the Government NHIF Family Health
scheme which Provides free health care for the p(K)r at any clintc or Hospital. We pay their yearly
subscripti¢)n, and they get the health care they need. This also covers Eye care at The Guernsey Eye
Clinic situaied in the sam¢ compound. Fffpm the Clinic we ￿ extending much needed help to wimary
and secondary school girls, through our Ruby Cup (menstn￿l Cup) distribution and monitoring s¢h¢me,
run by Trustee Senior Nurse Trudy Jupp. We are most ￿teful to the Cole's-MedI￿k TNst for
continuing their support lo this project.

Eye care
The Guernsey Eye Care Clinic continues to operate well since its opening in 2017. A regular monthly
clinic is held by a visiting optometrist and this year w¢ have been able to a week long eye surgical
catnp. It was extremely successful with 407 p¢opl¢ SCT¢encd with eye problems and 147 were 8iven
cataract sur¥ery. We are v¢ry grateful to Robert Frith Optometrists for their continued support of the
Eye Clinic. We hope that given time. the Eye Care Centre will be s¢lf-fman¢ing, using the new NHIF
Health care scheme intrimluced by the Kenyan Oovernment. As it is the only facility within a 150 miles
radius of Nairobi.
Kilulu Clinic
The Government NUTS¢ conlinues his work at clini¢ which was constructed and ¢ommissioned by
AAF many yeats ago. The Medical t¢am held Clinics there in Mwch this year.
Waterlsanitation
New Pump fit¢¢d at Manzolo near to tILe seasonal riverbed in October 23, this will serve a community
of approximatdy 30 families. This was a difficult installation, due to the very sandy conditions in the
riverbed, our vchicle getting sknck twice. I was fortunate to have Stewart Ogden with me for this visiL
I)uring my visit in January Ihis year accompanied by Jeremy Rawle, we installed the new rainwatertaDk
and guttering at Matooni JSS. Also surveyed new well sites at Manzolo and Matska seasonal riverbeads.
We also ¢atTi¢d out sojnc regular maintenance work at other dam and well sil¢s constrncted by AAF.
My trip later in 2024 will involve hopefully solving the problem of some very hard rock which th¢
diggers have encountered during the dA￿ltig of the new Well at Manzolo seasonal riverbed. This may
mean abandoning the site and finding a new one.
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
We have already planned visits to Eastern Kenya. Adrian M(K)re. his son Josh and I will be going in
August 2024 and DrJJmes Buckle. Trudy Jupp and Tanya Ogden in Oc¢ober2024.1 also have a planned
visit in February 2025 and the M￿l¢al team in March 2025. All four visits will entail much work and
commitm¢nt from the Trnsiee4 with the ¢ontinuing poverty problems in Eastern Kenya w¢ are
anticipating many cries for help. By lime of our visits, we will have plans in place to assist where
possible. These will include the following.'_
Distribution of fo(xl where we identify a ne¢d.
The installation of the Pump at Manzolo, Mataka and repair to water pumps if found nec¢ssary.
tnspection of Earth Catchment Dams and survey of a new site.
Many Primary/Secondary School visils. espectally an appraisal of our assistance at Matooni Junior
s￿Ond￿ry School.
Further Ruby Cup distribution to Schools.

INCOME RESERVES
The committee'8 policy on income reserves is to mainlain sufficient reserves for Ihe Charity to continue
to meet its ongoing commitments and to provide sufficient funds to develop thos¢ s¢rvices. At July 2024
the total reserveg held were £78,004 of which £1.920 8re free reserves.
RISK
The trnstees have assessed the major risks to which the cbarity is ¢xpOS￿ and syst¢ms havc been
establithed to minimisc those risks.
INVESTMEwf POLICY
CuTT¢ntly the charity is holding $l￿pIus funds in a bank account to be used for futyre activilies. Th¢
Trustees will review the balance held on a re￿lar basis.
The chaTity's accounts attached to this rew>rt have been prepared in line with current statutory
requirements and the charity's governing dowlllents.
