Muslim Community Connect Wokingham

Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 1 June 2025

The trustees, who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their annual report together with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 1 June 2025.

The trustees have prepared the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 and have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)..

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and aims

The charity’s primary objective is to establish a community hub to primarily serve Muslims living in and around Wokingham. The proposed centre will provide religious, educational, and recreational facilities, while promoting social inclusion and strengthening community cohesion.

In furtherance of its charitable purposes, the charity:

" Organises and facilitates religious services and educational sessions.

" Promotes interfaith dialogue and positive community relations.

" Engages with local organisations and stakeholders on matters of mutual concern, including equality, diversity, health, safety, and civic engagement.

" Supports initiatives designed to foster inclusion, wellbeing, and positive community development.

The trustees confirm that they have had due regard to the Charity Commission's public benefit guidance and are satisfied that the charity's activities meet the public benefit requirement, particularly under the advancement of religion, advancement of education, and community development.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

During the year, Muslim Community Connect Wokingham (MCCW) continued to develop relationships with Wokingham Borough Council and local community groups. The charity's activities are aligned with the broader aims of Wokingham Borough's Community Vision, encouraging engagement, creativity, and collaboration within a growing and diverse local population.

The charity focused on community engagement activities, educational sessions, and fundraising initiatives in support of its long-term objective of establishing a permanent community hub. Trustees are encouraged by the positive response and support received from donors and the wider community during the year.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Financial position

The charity experienced significant growth in voluntary income during the year, primarily due to increased fundraising efforts and strong community support toward the establishment of a future community centre.

" Fund balances as at 1 June 2025: £201,960 " Fund balances as at 1 June 2024: £10,880

Expenditure for the year ended 1 June 2025 totalled £38,884 (2024: £6,449). Costs related primarily to community activities and essential operational expenses necessary to deliver the charity's objectives. These included arrangements for children's educational classes, Jumu'ah (Friday) congregational prayers, and Ramadan prayer services, as well as event organisation.

The trustees are satisfied that expenditure during the year was applied solely in furtherance of the charity's charitable purposes. The strengthening of reserves places the charity in a more secure position as it progresses towards the long-term objective of acquiring and establishing a permanent community hub. The trustees remain committed to prudent financial management and to ensuring that all funds are used transparently and effectively.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Reserves policy

The trustees recognise the importance of maintaining adequate reserves to ensure financial sustainability and to support the long-term objective of acquiring premises for a community hub.

The majority of funds held at year-end are designated towards the future purchase and establishment of a community centre. The trustees regularly review the level of reserves to ensure they remain appropriate in light of planned activities and operational risks.

FUTURE PLANS

The charity's key priorities for the forthcoming year include:

" Continuing to provide religious, educational, and recreational activities that promote community cohesion.

" Expanding fundraising initiatives to support the establishment of a permanent community hub.

" Developing programmes that respond to the evolving needs of the local community.

" Organising educational seminars, workshops, and outreach sessions.

" Strengthening partnerships with local authorities and community organisations.

The trustees remain committed to delivering sustainable growth while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and governance requirements.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Governing document

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust and constitutes a charitable incorporated organisation.

Organisational structure

Muslim Community Connect Wokingham (MCCW) was established in 2023 as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and is governed by its constitution and registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

The charity is managed by four trustees, who are responsible for the overall governance, strategic direction, and financial oversight of the organisation. Day-to-day operations are overseen by the trustees with the support of nominated volunteers.

All trustees and core team members serve entirely on a voluntary basis. They hold no beneficial interest in the charity and receive no remuneration for their services. Any reimbursement of legitimate expenses, where applicable, would be made strictly in accordance with the charity's policies and Charity Commission guidance.

Trustee Contributions and Related Party Considerations

During the financial year, trustees made voluntary monetary donations totalling just under £10,000. These donations were given freely and without conditions, and no trustee received any direct or indirect benefit in return.

In addition, the charity received in-kind donations from trustees and core team members. Such contributions included prayer mats, kitchen equipment, sound system components, disposable event supplies, and food items used for community events. These voluntary contributions significantly reduced operational expenditure and supported the charity's objective of building financial reserves for a future community hub.

The trustees confirm that all related party transactions have been conducted in the best interests of the charity and in compliance with the charity's governing document and applicable regulations.
