Back round Miles for Smiles had been running for 7 years, fundraising for local charities before a meeting in Feb 2023 when we decided to become a registered charity. Over the coming months the groundwork was completed in submithng the application to the Charity Commission and on July 10, 2023 we were granted Charity Status, with a registered Charity Number of 1203923 and with the following charitable Objectives FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT, TO RELIEVE THE NEEDS OF PEOPLE WITH LIFE LIMITING OR LIFE CHANGING HEALTH CONDITIONS, OR WHO ARE DISABLED, LIVING IN SOUTH DERBYSHIRE, NORTHWEST LEICESTERSHIRE OR EAST STAFFORDSHIRE BY PROVIDING GRANTS TO INDIVIDUALS IN NEED TO ENHANCE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE, CHARITIES AND OTHER VOLUNTARY, COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS WHO SUPPORT THOSE IN NEED AND WHOSE CHARITABLE PURPOSES ARE IN LINE WITH THOSE OF MILES FOR SMILES. Home of the Charit In Feb 2024 we acquired an office for rent close to Swadlincote, this is located at Suite 15A Blakenhall Farm, Caldwell, Swadlincote, Derbyshire, DE12 6RU The decision to rent an office was to enable the smoother running of the charity. This would allow all of the equipment the charity had to be stored in one location, along with a place to hold the monthly charity meetings in a private location when discussing confidentr'al information. We have a 30 days cancellation on a rolling agreement after the initial 12 month5 Wlth our landlord for the rental of the office space. The total outlay for the office during the 18 month period was £6422, thi5 is a combination of rent, service charge, business rates and electricity costs. 10 All the office furniture was second hand and gifted to us by a company who were having an office refurbishment.
First Aid Course- Several Trustees attended a first aid course so that at any given event, should anything that requires medical assistance, we could at least offer some sort of care prior to the arrival of the ambulance, should it be required. Santa Ex ress at statfold - November 2024 The trustees decided to unite all our familie5 and treat them to a day out at a local country Park, offering a Santa Express experience. This gave us all the opportunity to meet all the families we had helped an(J for other families in similar circumstance5 to meet up and not feel like the odd ones out. We a very proud that the hard work we as trustees and Volunteers have put into the charity, and have m8de the lives of our families a little happier. The support of our local community and businesses has been huge and without this, we wouldn't have achieved the things we did in our first 18 months.
