## **AGM Pobl i Bobl Chair’s Report 2024 – 25**

As I look back over June 2024 until June 2025 I am astounded by the work that Pobl i Bobl has carried out. The achievements of Pobl i Bobl, although only a small charity, are truly amazing, fulfilling our clear objective to support refugees and asylum seekers in our community.

This is only made possible by:

- our committed, talented and compassionate 12 committee members who work tirelessly, in constant communication with each other to ensure we offer the best support we can:

- our official officers and Trustees who carrying out the work of these essential roles:

- our 29 registered volunteers who we rely upon to help with the "Drop in" sessions, events and activities:

- and the community at large, who support us when we "shout out" for items that are needed.

To you all, thank you, you are very much appreciated and valued.

The activities and events we have arranged over the year have been hugely varied but the main back bone of support we offer are our regular Wednesday evening "drop-ins". These run each week in Neuadd Capel Emaus in Bangor. It is often the first port of call for people who have just moved into the area. We offer clothes, food, sign post for information, introduce to others and give a warm welcome.

The Emaus team have been so generous, flexible and supportive over the years, without them we would not be able to run such an effective service. We can never thank you enough.

We have been able to sustain our activities due to committee members securing grants. For example grants available for: refreshments and food at Emaus, activities and games for Emaus, general activities and sports plus we have received very generous donations from community groups. Please see the breakdown in the Treasurers report.

The variety of activities we have been able to offer is due to linking with local organisations and projects in the area. For example Cymdeithas Eryri, Carneddau Landscape, RSPB, Oyster conservation, Pen y Bryn Outdoor, Henbant Farm, Neuadd Ogwen, Moel y Ci, and Dyma Ni.

We also have designated committee members who work closely with Anglesey and Gwynedd Councils.

There are too many activities and events to list here but here is a flavour: trips to Plas Newydd and Penrhyn Castel, kyaking in Rhoscolyn, walks in Eryri, tree planting in the Ogwen valley, a band to celebrate St David’s day, indoor and outdoor climbing sessions, trips to Neuadd Ogwen to band nights, an oyster conservation day in Conwy marina and supporting the Councils during Refugee Week.

As we look back over the years we see that the support we give reflects the different needs of the asylum seekers and refugees we work with, the finances available and the organisations we are able to link in with.

At present we are seeing racism and violence within communities across the country targeted at asylum seekers and refugees. It is so important at this time to continue to be a beacon of welcome, hope, love and unity.

We look forward to our year ahead: we want to continue to listen and learn from others, to be a solid point of contact for people, to be there week in and week out, to offer a safe welcoming space, to enable people to meet others and find friendship, to help navigate a new community and for people to gain confidence and hope to live a full life within their new community.
