**RAY Men’s Shed Aberaeron Year 2024 - 2025** # **Annual Report** **For the AGM, to be held at RAY Ceredigion. Pengloyn, Tabernacle St., Aberaeron, SA46 0BN 2.00pm 08-11-2025** ## **Trustees** Dave Ansley Chairman Mike Skelton Secretary Chris Ansley Treasurer Herbie Davies Resigned during the year due to relocation. ## **History** The Men’s Shed in Aberaeron was set up in 2023 and opened to members in 2024, with a lot of amazing support from Gill Byrne who obtained a number of grants to get us going. We are a registered charity (No.1203805) and affiliated to the UKMSA We have trustees who open and run the shed each time, and also tend to the “back room” chores such as accounts, purchasing, and the paperwork associated with running a shed. We currently have 13 + members and are based at: Men’s Shed Aberaeron Unit 1 Craft Centre Panteg Road Aberaeron SA46 0DX ## **Achievements over the year** A very warm welcome to Gwen, our new official “Men’s Shed Coordinator.” Many thanks again to Gill, who obtained a grant from the Lottery Commission to fund the position. Gwen will be promoting the Men’s Shed to a wider audience and searching for more funding to keep us going. Many thanks as well, to Dave our chairman, who finally managed to sort out the problems with our electricity provider EDF. Dave also applied for a grant from Barcud for our new CNC / LASER Engraver. Well done Dave! Over the year we have had a very generous donation of £250 from Sarn Helen Chapter No.926 and also donations of wood from BAM, Afon Mel, and recently Jewsons. We have also been given various items from members of the public to repair and sell on. 1 ## **Income generation** The members have been using recycled wood to make various items for sale. Our small children’s picnic tables have been very popular. We have also repaired and sold some items donated to the shed. With our recently purchased CNC / LASER engraver, we will now be able to make a number of items to sell, such as house signs, ornaments, toys. Last year the trustees performed the Portable Appliance Tests for RAY, as we were trained and Certificated via the Repair Cafe. ## **The wider community.** Throughout the year the Men’s Shed have been providing some maintenance support to RAY and helping out at RAY Ceredigion Play Day – Celebrating UK National Play Day. Aberaeron Primary School have approached us on a few occasions to repair some classroom furniture. RAY Ceredigion celebrated Age without Limits Day on Wednesday 11th June 2025. Dave popped down to RAY and made boats with their after school Actif Juniors group. Members of the Shed also participated in the “We Care Wales” video that can be found at https://wecare.wales/stories/volunteering-with-ray-ceredigion ## **Looking Forward.** Now that we have Gwen working for us, we will be promoting the Men’s Shed to a wider audience and will be searching for more funding. The trustees have little experience or success in this field, and so are very pleased to welcome Gwen into the group. With more members and more funding, as well as opening the shed on more days we could also offer the facility to more of the community in general, e.g. hosting other groups such as the PRU (Pupil Referral Unit), or offer small craft experience sessions. We have started on a new offer from Jewsons in Aberaeron to supply us with wood offcuts and damaged stock. There may also be the opportunity to help with a children support project on their site. Any ideas for the expansion of the shed are very welcome. If there is anything you would like to do, or even in the unlikely event you have any complaints, please let the trustees know. We are a Men’s Shed, run by members, for members. 2 ## **Trustees** A big thanks to Herbie, who resigned as a Trustee during the year. We wish you and your family the very best in your new home. All the trustees are unpaid volunteers who have put in many hours, and often their own money for the shed. In accordance with Charity rules at least one trustee will step down from their post at the AGM.
