## **Charitable purposes and activities**

As set out in the governing document of Stainborough Rotary CIO, the purposes of the CIO are:

**The relief of the poor and needy in the borough of Barnsley, any other part of the United Kingdom or elsewhere in the world or such other charitable purpose as the members of the CIO shall, in a duly constituted meeting, direct.**

## **Summary of the main activities in relation to these purposes:**

The charity’s activities in relation to the above are:

- It makes grants, donations, loans or gifts to individuals;

- It provides other finance to charitable or community organisations;

- It carries out activities or services itself with children, young people, older people, people with disabilities or health problems, people of a particular ethnic or racial origin, other defined groups, no specific group or for the benefit of the community, including other charities and voluntary bodies.

## **The main activities undertaken and achievements in relation to those purposes during the period.**

## **Community**

- Barnsley Hospice. A substantial donation was given to Barnsley Hospice towards the provision of reclining chairs for patients and their families, which offer comfort, relaxation, the alleviation of pain and improves mobility and independence.

- Independent Domestic Abuse Service (aka Barnsley Women's Refuge). A donation raised from the annual Christmas Tea party and Santa’s sleigh was given to IDAS to support the Barnsley Women’s Refuge to enable them to build outdoor storage. We continue to support the refuge with regular donations of toiletries, clothing, bedding, towels, toys and books.

- Kids out. A family fun day was arranged at Cannon Hall farm, a good day had by all.

- Homeless Project. A grant-based project working in partnership with Barnsley Council to support people move into their own tenancies. Stainborough Rotary are supporting the provision of the larger items which are more difficult to provide through donations.

- Centrepoint. We continue our relationship with Centrepoint by providing Christmas gifts for their residents.

- Locke Park. Work in partnership with the Friends of Locke Park in the form of car parking during the Classic Car Rally, this gives us an opportunity to promote Rotary and raise funds at the same time.

- Worsbrough Cricket & Football teams. Some of the money raised from the beer festival went to fund kits for Worsbrough Women’s cricket team and their Youth football team.

- My Body Is My Body (MBIMB). Stainborough Rotary is very proud to support this innovative charity which offers free resources and programmes to help communities prevent child abuse and protect children.

## **Stainborough Rotary CIO – Trustees’ Annual Report 2024-25**

- Coffee Mornings and Tea Parties. We’ve held several small events over the last year, raising funds for Brain Tumour Research.

- On Yer Bike. This is the third year that we have teamed up with the Physical Health & Well-being Team of the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to organise a cycle event called “On Yer Bike”. The bike ride was in support of local mental health services and raising funds for Ey Up NHS Charity.

- Santa’s Sleigh. This year, Santa’s sleigh was again put to good use, with Santa and companions visiting many areas in and around Barnsley including two primary schools.

- Young People. We sponsored two young people to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award 5-day programme in July and made a donation of £1,625 for the Barnsley Youth Choir this year.

- Bulb Planting. We have continued to plant crocus and other bulbs in various locations within the Barnsley area to improve the environment for the whole community.

## **International**

- Ghana. We are particularly proud of our productive relationship with Ghana Outlook (a UK based charity) which has achieved a great deal in relation to providing clean water and innovative start up projects led by local communities which have gone on to be self-sustaining. Ghana Outlook works with Accra Airport Rotary Club and Sahara Advocates for Change to identify, prioritise and implement appropriate projects. This year, we supported the provision of another Water Borehole in Cogongtel in the Wa West Region of Ghana.

- Ukraine. The continued conflict in Ukraine has been a focus of our attention over the last year and we have been pleased to be able to support a fellow Rotarian from Rotary Adventurers with his remarkable humanitarian aid work under the banner of Huddersfield to Ukraine. We donated 2 x £600 to buy essential supplies and fund the ongoing cost of providing this aid.

- Rotary Shoebox Scheme. We were delighted to be able to dispatch a further 65 shoeboxes filled with gifts for distribution to Eastern European countries. This builds on the 60 that were dispatched last year.

- Disaster Relief. We once again responded to appeals for help following international conflict donating £600 to ShelterBox to support the earthquake in Myanmar and £450 to Aquabox.

## **Environment**

- Crocus Bulb Planting – Stainborough Rotary has planted daffodil, purple crocus and other bulbs over the years in numerous community locations within the Barnsley area. The idea being to improve the environment for the whole community. There has been a lot of very positive feedback from the public on this. In 2023 we planted a crocus heart at Penny Pie Park, at a local church and crocus pots for Barnsley Homeless and BIADS.

- Recycling - we continue to recycle numerous items including: clothing, bedding, toys, toiletries and luggage, which locally benefits:

   - Women’s Refuge

   - Barnsley Foodbank Partnership and Worsborough Food Pantry

   - Centrepoint

Page **4** of **5**

## **Stainborough Rotary CIO – Trustees’ Annual Report 2024-25**

   - Barnsley Homeless and other organisations

- In addition, we continue to recycle: `o` aluminium cans for scrap value;

   - ring pulls, which are given to The Purple Community Fund, that uses them to make handbags;

   - jewellery, etc.

   - plastic bottle tops

   - aids and adaptations for people with disabilities; and

   - items donated by members, rather than thrown away, are sold, wherever possible at Tabletop sales.

## **Fundraising**

- Ladies Lunch 2024. Funds continue to be raised for Barnsley Youth Choir and LimbBo Foundation by the annual Ladies Lunch. The event is becoming increasingly popular, and this year was a complete sell-out and raised over £3,500 for both charities.

- Worsbrough Beer Festival 2024. In November 2024 the Worsbrough Miners’ Welfare Hall hosted our third beer festival during which many members poured beer, chatted to visitors and generally enjoyed a good time while helping to raise funds for charity. This event raised a profit of over £2,600. This money was shared between the Barnsley Hospice and two parts of Worsbrough Sports & Development Association.

- Tabletop Sales. Joyce & David continued to raise funds for charity. Most weekends they will be in a community hall somewhere in Barnsley, selling all items collected at a tabletop sale.

- Talent Auction (Auction Of Promises). Each year Stainborough Rotary hold a Talent Auction which this year raised £1,360.00.

- Call my Bluff Wine Tasting. This was another great evening, and we raised over £630 for international projects.

- Coffee mornings & Afternoon Teas. We held a number of coffee mornings and afternoon tea parties throughout the year and were able to raise £2,285.00

- The Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Club. We support the parking for all cars visiting and we we’ve been able to raise £940.00 for our local charities.
