INTRODUCTION In 2024, the Raphael Rowe Foundation continued its tireless work advocating for the basic human rights of individuals affected by the criminal justice system. From addressing the fundamental rights of prisoners to advocating for systemic reform in prison conditions, our focus has remained on ensuri ng dignity, equality, and justice for those imprisoned. We are committed to improvi ng conditions, enhancing rehabi litation efforts, and worki ng toward a more humane, fair, and effective criminal justice system. Our work would not be possible without the unwavering support of our partners, donors, and volunteers. This annual report provides an overview of the progress we've made, our financial status, and the impact of our programs. MISSION &VISION To work with those who ad minister prison systems throughout the world, and inspire them to abolish dehumanising, degrading and dangerous practices, putting more emphasis on the health, education and rehabilitation. Our vision is to end dehumanisation of people in prison and build safer societies. PILLARS Rethink. Inspi re systems which enable the mistreatment of people in prison to rethink their approach. IMPACT SUMMARY Fact-Finding Mission to Moldovan Penitentiaries A mission to Moldova's prison system uncovered critical insights i nto the conditions faced by male and female prisoners and young offenders. This initiative has laid the groundwork for cross-border collaboration to improve correctional practices and improve basic human rights. Preparation for Renovations at Rezina Penitentiary 17, Moldova The R RF has initiated preparations for essential renovations at Rezina Penitentiary 17 in Moldova, with a focus on enhancing wellbeing and mental health. Plans include the development of a gymnasium to provide prisoners with access to physical activity and recreational facilities. This i n itiative is designed to uphold human rights, improve mental health. and promote physical f itness, creating a healthier and more rehabilitative envi ronment. Prisoners will be actively involved in the renovation developing new skills. Equipment for Young Offenders in Moldova Sport equipment provided to young offenders in Moldova have enhanced wellbeing and physical activity. reducing boredom and stress. leading to them being more engaged with rehabilitation programs that will reduce the likelihood of reoffendi ng upon release.
Research on Women in Prison A qualitative study that explored the unique challenges faced by women in prisons. This research, and information sharing campaign, via the RRF social media platforms, focused on issues such as trauma. mental health, and family separation, paving the way for gender-sensitive projects and programs to be developed. Our focus initially is to provide sanitary products in prisons that do not meet these needs. Street Racket Activities in UK Prisons The introduction of the RRF wellbei ng and conf lict red uction innovative street racket activities has shown through evaluation that by introducing teamwork and mutual respect, these activities have built stronger relationships between staff and prisoners, contributing to a safer and more constructive environment. Collaboration to Build Bunk Beds in Indonesian Prisons In response to overcrowding and poor living conditions, the RRF is currently collaborating on a project with Second Chance Foundation and the Directorate General of Corrections. Indonesia, to construct bunk beds within an Indonesian prison. This initiative will improve living conditions. reduced overcrowdi ng, and meet essential human rights standards, promoti ng dignity and safety for incarcerated individuals.
Workshops in UK Maximum Security Prisons A motivational workshop inside HMP Garth, a maximum security prison in the UK. provided prisoners with inspiration and personal growth. This particular program em phasise usi ng time constructively, helpi ng participants to envision a more positive future and make meaningful contributions to society. Here is some prisoners feedback.. Listening to him has been the most meaningful experience i have had at HMP Garth and was inspiring to listen to his struggles which i con relate to being able to compare and contrast." FINANCIAL OVERVIEW Funding for Strategic Fundraising Initiatives Investment in a strategic fundraising report and the organisation of a dedicated fundraiser strengthened the RRF'S capacity to focus on revenue streams for sustainable funding. The initiative expanded donor networks and provided a clear roadmap for future resource development. ensuring the continuation of impactful programs. Governance and Leadership The Raphael Rowe Foundation is overseen by a Board of Trustees, each bringi ng diverse expertise in criminal justice reform, human rights advocacy, nonprofit management, and finance. I n 2024, numerous volunteers dedicated their time across various programs, i ncluding prison-based activities, research, and fundraising efforts. Additionally, we experienced growth in partnerships with organisations like Forest with I mpact, Meetmagic, and My Perfect Cosmetics, all contributing to the sustainabi lity of our human rights and prison reform resources. strategic Goals for 2025 As we look ahead to 2025, the Raphael Rowe Foundation has outlined the following priorities- Expand ou r Street Racket i nitiative ai med at enhancing prison wellbeing to five additional facilities in the UKand abroad. Partner with Moldovan male penitentiary authorities to renovate gym facilities. Team u p with Moldovan youth penitentiary authorities to establish an outdoor multipu rpose court for Street Racket and other activities. Work with Moldovan female penitentiary authorities to introduce Street Racket activities. Collaborate with Indonesian correctional staff and the Second Chance Foundation Charity to construct bu nk beds to alleviate overcrowding and enhance human rights. I mplement Street Racket activities within H M P Belmarsh, a maximum-gecu rity prison, to build engagement and reduce conflict. Launch a pilot program for educational and ski Ils training through digital devices. Set fund raising objectives.
