Freedom Camps Annual Report 2024

Aims and Objectives

TO ADVANCE THE CHRISTIAN FAITH FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE STATEMENT OF FAITH APPEARING IN THE SCHEDULE, PRIMARILY, BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY, BY THE PROVISION OF CAMPS, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS STRUCTURED AROUND THE CHRISTIAN ETHOS, FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AND FAMILIES THROUGHOUT THE UNITED KINGDOM.

Freedom Camps’ purpose, as set out in the Charitable Objects, is to advance the Christian Faith and engage more people, especially young people and families, with Christians and Churches.

Chair of Trustees Report

2024 has been an important year for Freedom Camps. We’ve seen the charity continue to grow and develop, supporting church events and giving young people the chance to experience faith, friendship, and adventure in new ways. It’s been really encouraging to see how our activities have added value to events and helped young people hear and engage with the gospel.

Governance and Safeguarding

Most of our work in 2024 was closely linked to Ed’s role as Youth and Families Minister at Frant Church, and he worked under the DBS check held by Frant Church. Following advice from the Charity Commission, we’ve been open about this arrangement. As of 2025, Ed has applied for a DBS check directly under Freedom Camps, giving the charity greater transparency and independence going forward.

Partnerships

In 2025, we began an exciting partnership with Scripture Union (charity no. 213422, limited company no. 39828). They are helping us with policies, best practices, and structure, offering valuable support as we work to strengthen our foundations and become even more effective in our mission to serve young people and churches.

Trustee Update

We were sad to say goodbye to Mr. A. Frroku (Berti), who has moved to Albania to serve as a missionary with his family. We are deeply grateful for all he contributed to Freedom Camps and continue to pray for him and his family as they begin this new chapter.

Looking Ahead

Reflecting on 2024 and 2025, it’s clear that Freedom Camps has built a strong foundation. Looking toward 2026 and beyond, we are starting to shape our long-term vision and strategy, considering how the charity can grow sustainably, reach more young people, and continue to make a difference while staying true to our values.

Finally, on behalf of the trustees, I would like to thank Ed and all who have volunteered with or supported Freedom Camps this year. I also wish to express my sincere appreciation to my fellow trustees for their dedication, wisdom, and support. Together, we are building something that will continue to bless and inspire young people for years to come.

Director’s Report

Our main objective for the year was start proving the concept, showing that Church events can enhance their events through using our activities.

This year, Freedom Camps supported 7 events, for around 100 young people, providing equipment. These events were linked or came about through my role as Children’s & Families Minister at Frant Church, and most were directly linked to the young people at Frant Church, but gave me a good opportunity to show types of equipment or activities that we desire to focus on. It was great to be able to help the event enhance its activities and see many young people hear and experience the gospel of Jesus through different talks and activities.

Our most popular activity request was laser tag, and we have already got good use out of the new equipment. We did however deliver of other activities such as uni-hockey and forest school activities, as I am a level 3 forest school practitioner.

Freedom Camps Annual Report 2024

Part of our strategy for this year was to develop links with other Christian organisations within the Tunbridge Wells area. As I worked for Frant Church as the Youth and Families Minister, I already had links with Churches and organisations, meaning that trust and professional connections were already in place.

In October of 2024, I moved job, homes and town, from Tunbridge Wells to Tonbridge, some 7 miles away. I now work for a bigger church, within the town of Tonbridge. The closeness to Tunbridge Wells means that I can keep relations with key Church and organisation workers that I have developed over the years, as well as gaining new links with Churches and organisations in Tonbridge.

My new Church (Tonbridge Parish Church) is one of the main Churches, with 4 sites, within the town and has a reach of thousands of young people, as well as many schools. The hope it to expand the reach of Freedom Camps, with my Church is supportive of. It also gives more credibility for the charity as the Church is widely known and fairly influential and respectful, especially within some local big primary schools. Because of the move, my work for the charity stopped for a period as for myself and my family to settle in. I did not stop however our presence of social media or relations that I have built.
