## **Trustees’ Annual Report for the period**

**From  01/01/2024   To 31/12/2024**

**Charity name: Stand for Change**

**Charity registration number: 1203719**

## **Objectives and Activities**

Stand for Change is a community-driven charity based in Islington that works with colleges to promote equality and diversity — particularly within education and sports. Stand for Change was established as a charity last year, having previously operated as a not-for-profit company since 2022.

The aims of Stand for Change are as follows:

- The promotion of equality and diversity, particularly within educational and sporting establishments by;

   - a) Eliminating discrimination based on race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and religion;

   - b) Advancing education and raising awareness regarding equality and diversity;

   - c) Promoting activities that foster understanding among people from diverse backgrounds;

   - d) Cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality and diversity.

## **Duty of Care**

The trustees of Stand for Change confirm that they have complied with their duty under section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission. In planning and carrying out the charity's activities for the year, the trustees have considered the Commission's guidance and are satisfied that all of the charity's purposes and activities are undertaken for the public benefit.

Throughout the year, the trustees have:

1. Ensured that the charity's purposes remain focused on delivering identifiable benefits to our beneficiaries and the wider public

1

2. Balanced any potential detriment or harm against the overall benefits of our work

3. Maintained our commitment to serving the public or an appropriate section of the public, without undue restriction

4. Reviewed our activities to confirm they align with our charitable purposes and deliver public benefit.

The trustees have referred to the Charity Commission's public benefit guides when making key decisions about the charity's operations and future plans. We are confident that Stand for Change continues to meet the public benefit requirement through its work as outlined above.

## **Achievements and Performance**

## **Website**

We continued to evolve our website, initially set up in 2023.

## **Profile Raising Initiatives**

As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting equality and tackling discrimination, we launched a high-visibility profile-raising campaign around Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium. As part of this initiative, we designed and distributed free Stands for Change T-shirts to the public. This activity served as a powerful conversation starter, encouraging open discussions about discrimination both at professional sporting events and within the wider sports industry.

## **College projects**

We collaborate with students from **Islington College** , **Kings Cross College** , and **Victoria College** , providing them with an engaging programme designed to raise awareness about diversity, inclusion, and discrimination.

As part of the programme, students are divided into groups of five, with each member taking on a specific role — such as **Editor** , **CEO** , **Research Lead** , or **Social Media Manager** . Together, they operate as a mini company, developing creative projects that address issues of discrimination and explore how to promote equality in the workplace.

In addition to the project work, we organise five-a-side football tournaments that bring students together across colleges. These events not only encourage teamwork and communication but also help break down barriers, fostering mutual respect and understanding among participants.

Through these initiatives, _Stand for Change_ empowers young people to become advocates for diversity and equality — equipping them with the skills, confidence, and awareness to make a positive impact in their communities and future workplaces.

## **Five a Side Project**

The project is called “Bringing Communities Together” and consists of the organisation of a intra-community 5-a-side competition to raise awareness of racism and discrimination in sport. It is being run in collaboration a league Essex league.

## **Formula One Project**

Planning is underway for a project called “Youth Inclusion & Pathways Programme” which is designed to give young people hands on experience in motorsport.

## **Financial Review**

The running costs of the charity are extremely low and these have been funded by donations from the Trustees. The Trustees have committed to seeking external funding this year.

Due to an error by the bank, the account was closed as the organisation transitioned from a not for profit company to a charity. The trustees are currently establishing a new bank account.

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

Stand for Change is structured as a CIO governed by constitution.

Trustees are selected on the recommendation of the existing trustees and via our extended networks. There is an interview process before trustees are selected.
