We are part of the 24-7 Pra er family- one of the Houses of Prayer in the 24-7 Communities Network. We aim to advance authentic Christianity in Nottingham land beyond) as we.. l. hold prayer meetings, services of worship. public celebration of religious festivals, rerreats, religious education. and producing and/or distributing media on Christianity- 2. carry out pastoral care, outreach and missionary work for and in the local community,. 3. promote the Christian tenet of hospitality and treating all people as Christ. We focus prlmarily on the city of Nottingham in the UK, though as the trustees see fit, we might stretrh our impact across the UK and beyond. 14 We love the Church I We pray for her unity and fruirfulness. We are watched over & guided by a number of city Church leaders, and we encourage everyone in our community to be r¢x)ted in a local church. What We Did Urban Abbey commSts to three practices which form a 'Rule of life,. St. Benedict explained that a Rule of Life is "simply a handbook to make the very radical demands of the gospel a practical reality in daily life., Our practices are: Prattice l- Prayer & Worship We punctuate our working weekdays with prayer & worship. r&¢alibrating our lives in God's presence regularly each day. We pray for the peace and prosperity of our city using the Daily Bell. And we support city-wide prayer initiatives. The house offers corporate prayer, and there are also spaces for private prayer. Examples of this included.. Provision of the Daily Bell a daily prayer email sent to hundreds of recipients to provide key prayer points and unify the focus on topics ranging from Business to the arts, local politics to Faith. URBAN ABBEY Practice 2- Community & Hospitality Community is a call to love and to unity. We intentionally commit to living as a community. generously sharing life with others. and positivety connecting with the local community around us. We open ourselves to receive from others with humility and thanks. We have regular Open Table meals, m05t of which you can see on the Term Programme. Examples of this included.. Soup Sunday's where local residents in the area of Sneinton are welcomed for food and fellowship Gardening events. The Garden at 15 Castle stet is one of the few available gardens in the area. A5 such, locals are encouraged to use the space and help to maintain it. Practlce 3- Mission & Discipleship The prayer community IS Outward lookn"n& engaging with the city ofwhich we are a part, as the hands and feet ofjesus. We look to live openly with our neighbours and nearby schools as we actively participate in the life of the local community, welcoming input and help. We're committed to learning together- growin8 to realise all of the rich potential thays in our community. Examples of thSs included.. Being invited into schools to provide prayer spaces and to lead children through Easter and Christmas awareness services. Provision of Christian retreats Future goals include.. Provision of Spiritual Direction services Writing and provision of Christian published resources Ibooks and other medial Working more effectively with bodies such as Nottingham City Prayer which aims to unify the churches across Nottingham with a focus on prayer and seNice.
