## **Overview of Activities and Ongoing Challenges:**

The Candy and Tibby Trust continues to operate under intense day-to-day pressure. Severe financial constraints, combined with a chronic shortage of permanent volunteers and new trustees, are making it increasingly difficult to respond to the growing number of calls and concerns about feral and stray cat colonies across the Wrexham area. In previous years, Paul successfully reduced the number of established colonies through relentless trapping, neutering, and rehoming efforts. However, these hard-won gains are now being undone. A small but persistent number of owners continue to refuse to neuter or practice responsible cat ownership, leading to the steady re-emergence of new colonies. These colonies start small but quickly grow, becoming unmanageable and placing renewed strain on already limited resources here in Wrexham.

## **Performance Review and Strategic Direction:**

The Candy and Tibby Trust remains one of only a handful of rescues in North East Wales dedicated specifically to stray and feral cats. Despite limited capacity, the Trust continues to focus on:

- Supporting stray and feral cats across the Wrexham area

- Raising public awareness of the importance of neutering and microchipping

- Fundraising to keep rescue operations running

## **Operational Pressures:**

The rescue relies heavily on Paul, who carries the vast majority of frontline responsibilities. From responding to reports and setting traps to transporting cats and managing veterinary care, the workload is relentless. Although a small number of dedicated volunteers provide invaluable help, the demand for assistance continues to far exceed what the Trust can realistically manage. As a result, difficult decisions are being faced on a daily basis about which cases can be taken on and which must be delayed, often to the detriment of the cats involved.

## **Financial Overview:**

Rising costs have placed further strain on already stretched finances. Expenses for fuel, veterinary treatment, trapping equipment, and cat food have all increased again this year. At the same time, adoptions and public donations have declined due to the wider cost-of-living crisis. This combination has made it increasingly challenging to maintain even the current level of support, let alone respond effectively to the growing number of stray and feral cats requiring urgent intervention.

## **Donations and Support Received:**

The Rescue is deeply grateful for the support it continues to receive, including:

- Kind financial donations from members of the public towards cat food and veterinary bills

- Contributions via PayPal Giving Fund

- One of two chosen local charities by Jolleys Wrexham – The Pet Place (providing vital food donations)

- Support through Easyfundraising, allowing supporters to raise funds while shopping online
