This year we have been working with the Royal Academy of Music, where Emma Warren (Trustee and ‘Artistic Director’) was a Fellow.

FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT TO ADVANCE THE ARTS AND IN PARTICULAR THE ART OF CHORAL MUSIC BY THE ORGANISATION AND/OR PRESENTATION OF CONCERTS AND RECITALS, RECORDINGS, WORKSHOPS, AND BY SUCH OTHER MEANS AS THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES SHALL FROM TIME TO TIME DETERMINE. 

## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects** 

December 2023 - Belsize Library 

We held a cosy, relaxed evening of festive music in the Grade-II listed Belsize Community Library. Audience members were invited to bring their own drinks and sit on sofas and cushions between the bookshelves to enjoy the concert. The programme featured three 20-minute sets of music: acapella choral pieces, a solo harp set, and a combined performance of Benjamin Britten's 'A Ceremony of Carols'. This concert was supported by the Stephen Dodgson Trust and the Royal Academy of Music. 

- February 2024 Conducting Workshop 

Our first workshop as a charity saw our Artistic Director run a choral conducting workshop for girls and young women at the Royal Academy of Music, in partnership with the London Youth Choirs. We selected eight young musicians from a healthy pool of applicants to partake in the day-long workshop where they had the opportunity to conduct members of Inchant and the London Youth Chamber Choir under the guidance and coaching of Emma and another RAM alumna, Olivia Shotton. The trustees agree that this was an overwhelmingly successful event: in particular, the impact on an underrepresented demographic in the choral industry (women in choral conducting), and the partnerships with the RAM and LYC were beneficial to all concerned. Such collaborations would be desirable in future events. We have subsequent plans for similar workshops in our next year. 



April 2024 - Poston Concert 

Inchant were involved in a project with charity Multitude of Voyces, who are working to publish many forgotten choral works by 20th Century composer, Elizabeth Poston. Performing at Poston's alma mater, the Royal Academy of Music, Inchant premiered new editions of two works written by Poston for upper voice choir and harp. Between the music, our Artistic Director gave the audience an insight into Poston's life and some background to the pieces performed in the concert. 

June 2024 - School Workshop 

We worked with the choir of a local state school for girls in Earlsfield, where five GCSE and A-level pupils had the opportunity to conduct some pieces for upper voices under the guidance of our Artistic Director. For many of these pupils it was their first opportunity to try conducting. In addition, a singer from Inchant lent her expertise and led a warm-up with the girls. As part of the workshop, a Q&A session was held where the pupils had the opportunity to ask questions and learn about studying music at degree level, careers in music, and choral singing and conducting.

## **Achievements and Performance** 

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

The trustees continue to be pleased with encouraging positive feedback from our concerts and workshops. Testimonials have noted originality, innovation, and music of an excellent quality. Additionally, our workshops have brought opportunity to an underrepresented demographic in the choral conducting industry. Testimonials from the Female Conductors’ Day noted the relaxed environment in which they were able to discover and learn. 

Inchant has begun to make a name for itself and break into the choral scene. Our Artistic Director actively pursues continued professional development during her career outside of Inchant and will be the Conducting Scholar for The Sixteen’s upcoming 2024-25 Genesis cohort. The trustees recognise the positive benefit of such experiences on the profile of Inchant and its charitable objectives. 

We have employed an increasingly proactive approach to applying for fundraising, which has enabled us to put on events that otherwise may not have been feasible and fulfil our charitable objectives.

We secured a grant from the Skinner’s Company for small capital items and core costs such as stage lights, choir folders, electrical equipment, website fees etc. Most of these assets will be used for years to come, and are another step towards establishing a consistent brand for our charity. The Stephen Dodgson Trust awarded us funding towards our Christmas concert, enabling us to put the concert on. 

We have put considerable effort into planning and sourcing funding for upcoming projects for the coming year. We have recently secured partial funding for a tour to a more rural area of the country to offer our choral experiences outside of London, where most of our projects have taken place. We are increasingly confident that this project will be viable and continue to make progress in the logistics and financial backing needed for the tour. 

Ticket sales have been an additional source of revenue for our concerts. While it is difficult to put on a concert with ticket sales alone, they provide us the opportunity to offset a project deficit or generate a profit for further investment into our charitable objectives.

## Future plans: Winter Tour 

Plans have begun on a Christmas/Winter tour to Herefordshire and the surrounding areas; we have already confirmed bookings from multiple venues. We have secured a significant amount of funding so far and are optimistic that we will realise the project. 

Future plans: Belsize concert series 

Plans are in their early stages to do more concerts at Belsize Library (or similar venue) early in the next calendar year. 

Future plans: Conducting workshops 

On the back of the success of this year’s conducting workshops, we endeavour to do at least one more this coming year.
