Report of the Trustees

The trustees present their report and financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 May 2024.

The Trustees have opted to prepare receipts and payments accounts, and the charity has exercised its option to exemption from the requirement to obtain an audit of its financial activities.

The charity is registered with the Charity Commission, the Regulator for Charities in England and Wales

Objectives and activities of Jimmy’s Tennis

The object of the CIO is to provide free and easily accessible to all, a Physical and Mental Health Well Being programme through exercise. For all ages, young and old, with or without varying disabilities and/or financial hardships. Developing within the community principally through the sport of tennis.

The Trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commissions general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the Charity’s aims and objectives and in planning future activities. The offering of all services, on court and off court have been for the benefit of the local community. No offering is made without the thoughts of the benefits for now and longer term to recipients.

The trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance when exercising any powers or duties to which the guidance is relevant.

Achievements and performances

During the year support to 76 different players attending per week, 12 adults, 64 juniors. This is on various courts, community and club throughout the Medway area.

Variations of soft tennis, short tennis, walking tennis and Pickleball provided, along with exercising and discussions.

Various disabilities supported and free sessions provided across these venues.

The Charity also supported 3 specialist schools per week. Providing focused physical and mental health support sessions, giving attendees more confidence via the activity and exercise undertaken by all. The charity was requested directly by the schools to provide the support.

Awards and Charitable Grants

All recipients are reviewed before any offer is made. ‘Grants’ or offer of services are non-monetary

Sources of Funding

Financially Supported by Funding Founders Donations, Active Kent, Kent Sport and Jimmy’s Tennis via Crowdfunding.

Three small value grants were also received in addition to the fees paid for provision of sports coaching and support given.

Structure, Governance and Management

Jimmy’s Tennis CIO was founded in 2023 as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and has adopted the foundation model constitution for a CIO whose only voting members are its charity trustees. The trustees meet quarterly to review the activities, performance and financial status of the CIO.

Volunteers

A small group of volunteers are involved on a regular basis and help in the provision of services provided by the charity. All 3 trustees are volunteers.

Financial Review

For a review of the financial performance please refer to the Statement of Financial Activities and Balance Sheet for the year ended 31[st ] May 2024.

The Charity holds sufficient reserves to fulfil its policy objectives.

1. Accounting policies

Basis of preparation

The financial statements have been prepared on the cash basis.

The financial statements have been prepared to give a ‘true and fair’ view.

The financial statements are presented in sterling (£) which is the functional currency of the charity and rounded to the nearest £

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds are funds which are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the Charity and which have not been designated for other purposes. There are no restricted funds.

Income

All incoming resources are included in the Statement of Financial Activities when the charity receives the funds.

Expenditure

All expenditure is accounted for on a cash basis when paid and has been classified under headings that aggregate all costs related to the category.
