KINGS LYNN EVANGELICAL CHURCH TRUSTEES' REPORT FOR THE TWO MONTHS ENDED 31 MARCH 2024

Kings Lynn Evangelical Church was constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 5 June 2023, and is a registered charity, number 1203408. It is a continuation of the ministry of a former Charitable Unregistered Association (CUA) which was also known as Kings Lynn Evangelical Church.

The CUA continued operations until 31 January 2024 and all its membership, assets and liabilities were transferred to the new CIO on that date.

Activities

The church’s activities include public worship services, bible teaching, proclamation of the gospel, pastoral support upon request, community activities including support of people on the route out of debt, parent and toddler activities, a knit and natter group, a weekly warm space/drop-in, children’s holiday clubs, schools’ evangelism, support of mission organisations bringing hope and relief to needy communities in the UK and overseas. Operations in the two months from the date of transfer to 31 March 2024 resulted in a deficit of £316.

Major events

The Church meets in a former Methodist Chapel in Gayton Road, Gaywood, Kings Lynn. These premises have been the “home” of the church (including the former CUA) since around 1990 and the church has been responsible for all upkeep, maintenance and insurance since first occupation. It is currently insured for full loss and replacement. The cover amount is £485.000. This property was held in trust by The FIEC Property Trust. On 1 February 2024 they transferred freehold ownership of the property to the Church at zero cost. It is the intention of the Trustees to take advice as to the value of the property. In the meantime, the property is therefore not valued on its Balance Sheet.

Reserves policy

The Church reserves policy is to maintain free reserves to cover the cost of 6 months operation of the activities of the church. In order to meet urgent unforeseen costs, this has been set at a minimum of £15,000. The Trustees have identified the major risk as damage to the premises which would affect the provision of community services including worship, bible teaching, community and children’s activities. The Trustees have ensured that adequate insurance over is in place.

Basis of accounting

The financial statements have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis and in accordance with relevant accounting standards. The financial statements comply with the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
