## Section B – Structure, Governance and Management 

## Governing document and legal status 

London Computer Recycling is a **Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)** governed by its constitution and registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. 

## Management and decision-making 

The charity is governed by the Board of Trustees, who meet regularly to oversee strategy, compliance, finance, and operational performance. Trustees are appointed by the Chair in accordance with the charity’s governing document. 

## Risk management 

The Trustees have continued to review the major risks faced by the charity, particularly in relation to: 

- Data security and compliance with GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. 

- Health and safety in handling electrical equipment 

- Financial sustainability 

- Dependency on volunteers 

Appropriate technical and organisational controls are in place and implemented daily, including secure certified data-wiping or destruction using compliant software, safe handling policies, and regular financial monitoring. The Charity complies with UK Law in that it pays the ICO data protection fee in order to process personal data. 



## Volunteers 

Volunteers play a vital role in supporting refurbishment, logistics, administration, and community outreach. The charity provides guidance and basic training to ensure safe and effective volunteering. 

## Section C – Objectives and Activities 

## Charitable objectives 

The objectives of the charity are set out in its governing document. They include key objectives such as: 

- The prevention or relief of poverty 

- The advancement of environmental protection and conservation 

The charity supports other charities, voluntary bodies, and the general public throughout England. 

## Activities during the period 

During the period from February 2024 to February 2025, London Computer Recycling continued to: 

- Collect redundant donated computers, laptops, and IT equipment from businesses and individuals 

- Securely erase data and refurbish usable devices 

- Redistribute refurbished equipment to individuals, students, families, and community organisations experiencing digital poverty 

- Responsibly recycle non-reusable waste to reduce landfill and 

environmental harm 



The charity also worked to raise awareness of digital inclusion and sustainable IT practices. 

## Public benefit 

The trustees confirm that they have maintained due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit. The charity’s activities provide clear public benefit by: 

- Improving access to digital technology for disadvantaged individuals 

- Supporting education, employability, and social inclusion 

- Reducing environmental impact through reuse and recycling of IT 

equipment 

## Section D – Achievements and Performance 

Key achievements during the year included: 

- LCR was awarded with the Prestigious Award for Excellence in Recycling & Waste Management 2025. 

- Continued growth in e ‑ waste collections from local businesses 

- Increased number of refurbished devices distributed to beneficiaries 

- Strengthening of data security procedures and documentation 

- Ongoing partnerships with community groups and schools 

Despite ongoing financial and operational challenges, the charity remained resilient and focused on its mission. 

## Section E – Financial Review 

The Trustees are satisfied that the charity has managed its resources responsibly during the period. Income was primarily derived from donations, 



service contributions, and recycling-related activities. Expenditure was focused on: 

- Equipment refurbishment and IT supplies 

- Transport and fuel costs 

- Rent and operational expenses 

- Volunteer and staff allowances 

The charity aims to maintain adequate reserves to meet short-term 

obligations while continuing to invest in service delivery. 

## Section F – Plans for Future Periods 

In the coming year, the trustees plan to: 

- Expand device donation and redistribution programmes 

- Increase partnerships with schools, charities, and community organisations 

- Improve fundraising and grant applications 

- Enhance volunteer recruitment and training 

The trustees remain committed to encouraging and reducing digital poverty and protecting the environment through sustainable IT reuse practices.
