c) making grants to organisations furthering similar preservation and conservation purposes. 2. To advance the education of the public in subjects relating to sustainable development and the protection, enhancement, and rehabilitation of the environment and,

3. To promote study and research in such subjects, providing the public with skills and knowledge to partake in sustainable development. Sustainable development means “development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

For context, Nature and Community is a new, small charity registered on 1[st] June 2023 and therefore the year ending 31[st] March 2025 represented only the first full financial year of operation. Trustees read and took into account Charity Commission guidance on public benefit when forming the charity and when considering its work and activities.

During this period, the charity undertook small-scale habitat creation and restoration work, including removal of overgrown vegetation, opening areas of bare ground and sowing British native wildflower seeds for a school nature area in Gloucestershire. Further work was undertaken by Trustees to monitor the establishment of previously planted British native trees, help maintain a woodland outdoor learning area used by local school children, and to collate local biodiversity data to inform conservation planning and decision-making across the Parish.

## Section D Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

During 2024-25 we:

- Raised £1,610 meeting the modest expectations of Trustees during the first full year of the Charity’s existence.

- Undertook habitat creation and restoration work across a hectare of previously species poor amenity grassland in Gloucestershire.

- Sowed seeds of over 50 species of British native wildflowers.

- Monitored establishment of over 400 previously planted British native trees.

- Collated data on the biodiversity of Chalford Parish in Gloucestershire, UK.

- Helped with the maintenance of a woodland outdoor learning facility used by 180 primary school children.

- Provided a grant for a community sustainability enterprise in rural Niger for the purchase of a press for the extraction of oil from the seeds of _Balanites aegyptiaca_ trees.

Relying entirely on the time of Trustees and modest financial resources, these outcomes were in line with the Charity’s expectations for 2024-25.

## **Section E                    Financial review**

**Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves**

Trustees have a reserves policy as a contingency against unforeseen or unexpected needs. As a new, small charity with no fixed overheads, Trustees agreed to retain a nominal amount of £500 for this purpose, which we believe is a reasonable and proportional sum at this stage. In addition, Trustees agreed to set aside £1,250 for planned commitments that may not be met through future income alone, and with the expectation that these funds would be expended in the following financial year.

**Details of any funds materially in deficit**

None

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.

## **Section F Other optional information**

## **Section G                    Declaration**
