## **ANNUAL REPORT 2024-25**

## **1. OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**

- a. Objectives:

   - i. To research, conserve, interpret and provide access to the tangible and intangible military heritage of the city of Ripon and its environs.

- b. Activities

   - i. Extensive engagement with Homes England, North Yorkshire Council and MoD (including DIO)

   - ii. Extensive engagement with local politicians at Unitary Authority and parish council

   - iii. Extensive engagement with local organisations representing veteran bodies, local interest groups, other charities

## 2. **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE**

- a. Successful partnership with the Institute of the Public Understanding of the Past (University of York), culminating in mentorship and research programme with an M.A. student

- b. The research and initial production of an interactive, digital map marking WW2 sites relating to military, civil defence and the ‘Home Front’ of Ripon and its environs

- c. Research and collation of material to further the production of a Heritage Strategy with Homes England to aid the preservation of heritage assets at Ripon Barracks

- d. Continuation of the Oral History Project, recording memories of the military in Ripon

- e. Participation in local community events such as the Royal Engineers Freedom Weekend

- f. Giving talks to local groups to raise the awareness and understanding of the military history of the city and its surroundings

- g. The Trust has received a limited number of donations for its collection, for example a 1/6 scale wooden model of a Bailey bridge which was used to teach Royal Engineers. In response the Trust has produced and agreed a ‘Collections Acquisition & Disposal Policy’. This has been established in line with current best practice and professional collections management expertise

## **3. FINANCIAL REVIEW**

- a. at present we have no assets beyond our modest bank balance, other than gifts of manuals, models and personal memorabilia.

- b. We therefore have no material financial investments and have set no policy for such

- c. The principal risks facing the charity are that we fail to achieve our immediate target – that of preserving examples of the huts in Deverell Barracks, in which case we would continue to work on our other ongoing programmes, including the Oral History Project.

- d. It has been appropriate to incur no liabilities while we have no assets against which to offset these. We do not intend to incur any liabilities at this stage.

- e. Funding during the period has been from donations and grants.

- f. At the end of the reporting period, the charity held £858.85 in its Unity Trust Bank account.

- g. No commitments beyond the cost of operating the bank account, the charity website and charitable rate subscriptions to Microsoft and ESRI have been identified.

- h. The cost of these commitments has been underwritten by a corporate donor, who has undertaken to provide £500 per annum to the charity.

- i. Future programmes will not be embarked on without funds having been secured to cover the cost of their implementation and completion.
