Charity registration number and address;

Who are we:

Holistic Vital Accessible Empowerment (HAVE) is a small charity who aim to empower deaf and hard of hearing people who use British Sign Language (BSL) in overcoming the disadvantages and barriers they face in their everyday lives.

Aims

We aim to promote social inclusion among people who are socially excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of being deaf or hard of hearing. We strive to empower them in becoming more integrated into society by providing free information and advocacy services in British Sign Language (BSL). Our service is designed to enable deaf and hard of hearing people to access key services which are otherwise widely inaccessible, and to work holistically with an individually tailored approach to support maximising individual potential.

Trustee names:

We were pleased to welcome three new trustees in May 2022; Esther McAuley, Zahra Khaira and Dolapo Akande. Together, they bring a vast array of experiences, as well as enthusiasm, which will benefit our Charity to develop over the coming years.

Their skills range all walks of life, from British Sign Language and Linguistics, Interpreting in BSL/English, teaching, social care and vitally, the deaf lived experience.

These trustees joined in 2022 and are currently serving.

Introduction:

Since 2022 we have undertaken vital work in the setting up and establishment of our charity. This has included researching funding sources and making detailed applications. This has taken considerable work and time.

In 2022 the charity was initially registered as a foundation, however, after consultation with external advisors, both the trustees and the director eventually agreed to register the charity as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). We felt that this would be more appropriate and means that HAVE are not required to register with Companies House, and the trustees have limited or no liability for CIO debts or liabilities.

We have faced challenges along the way when making applications for funding, but have offered continued support to clients despite this.
