## **Imago Malawi: 2025 Trustees' Annual Report Activities Summary**
## **Mission**
Our mission is to educate, nourish and empower marginalised communities in Malawi through atypical education and outreach and by challenging the status-quo of inequality, in order to break the cycle of poverty.

To break the cycle of poverty by creating healthy and thriving communities.
## **Objectives**
To provide equal opportunity and lessen the equality gap through education at grass root level. To improve individual and community livelihoods, health and nutrition through permaculture. To protect & regenerate the natural environment.
## **Challenges**
- In September 2023 the CEO and Deputy CEO were deported from Malawi due to over-staying their visa. The process of applying to be allowed to return is still ongoing. The progress of the charity almost exclusively relied on their efforts. As well as applying to return, other options are being explored to keep the charities activities progressing. However, in the short-term, active fund-raising activities of Imago Malawi are on hold. Imago Malawi’s sister organisation, ‘The Imago Foundation’ is still operational but in a lower capacity than originally intended.
## **Fundraising and Outreach:**
- **UK Fundraising:**
- An Easy Fundraising page is ongoing and being used day to day, this means that as supporters shop they build a residual income for the charity. We currently have 14 supporters and have raised almost £300 since it was established late 2023.
## • **Outreach:**
- The CEO and deputy CEO maintain contact with Rotary Clubs in Cannock and the surrounding areas.
## **Operations in Malawi 2025:**
- **Pilot Permaculture Course 2025:**
- In April 2025 a pilot permaculture course was held for 6 months for 6 highly motivated community members including 1 representing the village chief. Key aspects of the course included the building of a compost toilet, installing a solar light, creating various organic compost and fertilisers, creating a tree nursery some of which was distributed to people in Zapanga and Namaso villages for free, seed-saving, growing organic food, and of course teaching various permaculture principles to the 6 learners in a highly practical manner. It was a great success, and led to the decision to open up a larger course to the wider community.
- **Permaculture Course 2026:**
- The success of the pilot permaculture course in 2025 led to the start of a larger permaculture course, pulling in more people from the wider community, and starting in December 2025. 15 individuals would receive training as a group and then they would return to their respective families to organise a ‘home garden’, growing vegetables using permaculture principles. The act of growing vegetables near the home goes against local norms and customs but aligns very closely with permaculture principles, makes caring for plants and harvesting easier, and prevents food theft. Although the primary number of participants is 15, their family members will form a secondary, larger group of participants.

Between 29 March and 1 April 2025, the charity facilitated an international transfer of £405 to support project operations and deliver time-sensitive activities in Malawi. Due to limitations in transferring directly from the UK charity bank account to Malawian bank accounts at the time, the trustees authorised a temporary, manual administrative workaround: funds were moved from the charity account to a trustee’s personal account to utilise the Mukuru Money Transfer platform for cash pickup by local project representatives.
All funds were fully accounted for with a complete paper trail, and no personal gain or financial benefit was derived from this transaction. The charity has since established a formal, direct international business transfer route via Western Union to ensure all future transactions follow standard institutional procedures.
