## **Friends of Dunchurch Society**

## **Report for 2023/2024.**

**Last April, The Friends of Dunchurch Society held a Spring Fair to raise funds for village projects and, continuing with this successful event, at our Spring Fair last month we raised over £750.**

**In May 2023 FODS and our friends, (we are lucky to be assisted by many other community groups), hosted a beacon lighting event to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.**

**The crowds were entertained by Vincent (our piper), The Dunchurch Band, The Dunchurch Voices, Thea Watson, Master of Ceremonies Guy Watt and blessings were given by Rev Pat Townshend from St. Peter’s Church and Katie Wederell from the Dunchurch Baptist Church. With the beacon lighting being carried out by the Dunchurch Ambassadors and Sue Kember (ably assisted by Phill Freeman). And all reported live by Dan Sambell from Coventry and Warwickshire Radio with on the spot interviews with Sue Protheroe!!**

**In September we held our Friends of Dunchurch social evening and prior to the event, Roger Bache, President of RHS Heart of England in Bloom, a great friend and mentor of FODS, visited to give an impartial opinion for the best Blooming Barrow and Tantalising Trough. Roger has followed with interest our journey since bestowing Dunchurch with the accolade of being the best large village in the 7 Heart of England Counties.**

**FODS have encouraged Dunchurch residents to enter Rugby In Bloom with their planted Blooming Barrows and Tantalizing Troughs for the last 3 years.**

**On Sat 22[nd] June we will hold our Annual Trough Gather in the car park of the Green Man. (We are enormously grateful to the Green Man for their support of FODS over the last 12 months). The Trough Gather is a chance for the community to meet and chat and admire each others planting ideas.**

**The barrows and troughs will then be placed around the village centre to be admired by all.**

**In November, in collaboration with Wanda Fashions, we held our first fashion show! The models were well known to us and some were a little nervous but sashayed along the runway! Another great event raising £547 to go towards FODS village projects.**

**Winter Wonderland 2023 was another successful event. Last year we decided to hold the whole event in the social club, and we thank them for their support of FODS. With entertainment, mulled wine, mince pies, games and of course a visit from Father Christmas, we raised £410 to go into the pot to be used this year on planting schemes for Dunchurch In Bloom.**

**For 6 years we have been carrying out our FODing duties and Making A Difference to the centre of the village and with more volunteers we hope to continue for a few years yet!! We’re lucky to have been joined this year by two more hard working Duke Of Edinburgh Award students.**

**Some of the FODS are now involved with helping at Dunchurch Festival Group events, behind the scenes with the Pantomaniacs, knitting and crocheting toppers to adorn the staddle stones outside The Old Halt, and raising funds by doing a regular deep clean at the Dunchurch Village Hall, a few recently helped out at Sport for the Disabled.**

**FODS have organised and paid for 32, 18 inch hanging baskets for the 16 lampposts around the centre of the village. With grants and donations from the Festival Group and the Pantomaniacs. The Dunchurch Village Magazine continues to be produced every quarter and delivered to over 1,400 homes.**
