Health and Safety, Fire and Manual Handling polices are in place and provided to all staff and volunteers, along with the appropriate training, guidance and induction programme. 

The Charities organisation structure comprises of: 

-   3 Trustees, 

-   Staff: 1 Full Time & 4 Part Time 

-   6 Volunteers 

In addition to the objectives set out in the Charity Commission, the three trustees oversee the day to day running of the charity and supporting the kennels. 

The charity offers a project, which enables volunteers to support our staff in caring for resident dogs. 

Training and handling of all dogs is discussed in detail and daily summaries are shared between staff and volunteers to enable continuation of quality care. 

We have links with on-site trainers and sign posting options with trainers for continuation of our work. 

We also have links with canine nutritionists for advice surrounding health and well being for each dog.  Trustee, Denise Akbani is a member of the Raw Pet Medics group. 

Wider networks – we have connections in Romania with one rescue correspondent.  We have a UK rescue Vet that refers dogs to us that are possibly adoptable. 

All trustees give their time voluntarily and received no remuneration or other benefits.

**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** 

To promote humane behaviour towards dogs, both in the UK and Romania, by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment, safe shelter & security for dogs in need of care by reason of mistreatment, abandonment, poor circumstances or ill use. 

To actively seek homes for rescued dogs and advance public understanding of dog welfare by providing training and support to adopters. 

In planning our activities for the year we kept in mind the Charity Commissions guidance on public benefit at our trustee meetings. 

In the current climate we are being approached daily with dogs that are unwanted for various reasons.  We have seen an increase in dogs left from bereavement, financial restraints on families, training ignorance and lack of understanding of dogs needs. 

Whilst we have taken many of these dogs into our rescue for rehoming, a lot of them have gone on to remain in their homes with our support and education. We are providing an advisory role to the community dog owners.  We also have referred dog owners to engage with local food banks for dogs. 

We have been a point of contact for not only vets in the area with dogs presenting for euthanasia but also have had referrals from the bigger rescues namely Jerry Green / RSPCA who very often supply our details to dog owners wanting to surrender their dogs .

## **The main activities undertaken are as follows:** 

- A more detailed application form is now used, along with detailed home checking for potential adopters; 

- A full training programme has been written with the help of our trainers, which provides further information regarding rescuing a dog; 

- Providing the opportunity to engage with our trainers on a 1-2-1 basis soon after adoption; 

- Pre-adoption screening has become more in-depth and intense discussions surrounding possible scenarios are discussed prior to adoption; 

- Full support to adopters is always provided on an ongoing basis; and 

- A dual microchipping service is always implemented to keep track of all the dogs with an admin support check in service which is gradually reduced to annually at an appropriate timescale. 

These activities benefit the public by developing their knowledge and understanding of dog welfare and provides them with the skills, knowledge and confidence to train their dogs, who also provide them with companionship. 

These activities also benefit our staff and volunteers by developing their skills, self confidence and knowledge; dealing with members of the public, social media and attending fundraising events.

Volunteers are vital to our rescue, not only for the smooth running of our back up kennels but also continuing the cycle of rescue and support. We are grateful for the many hours volunteers have spent working for the rescue.  Without this valuable contribution of time, energy and expertise we would not have been able to achieve so much.

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

This is the second year our charity has been operational and during this time we have re-homed 96 dogs and raised £63.6k in donations – which has enabled us to achieve the following: 

**The main activities achieved during this year are as follows:** 

 Continuation of the rescue and re-homing of dogs; working with the dogs to train and rehabilitate them, until they are ready for adoption 

 Recruit 2 additional part time staff 

Added electrics & flooring to the main cabin 

Added an outside shed, to safely store all donated items for the auctions 

 Condensed a number of small freezers, to one large chest freezer to store all the raw dog food 

 Created an outside obstacle / agility course to provide exercise and enrichment for the dogs 

 Our Database has been upgraded, making it more accessible and easier to manage and update 

 Provide full support to adopters is provided on an ongoing basis 

## **Fundraising Events** 

We have attended several fundraising events to promote local awareness of the charity, to enlist support and recognition.  We also run monthly auctions on our website generating valuable funding.  The Buddies Club membership has been created which provides us with regular monthly contributions which aid with future financial planning and members feel included in the charity.  Members receive a monthly newsletter and a chance of a gift which includes merchandise and dog related items. 

## **Website** 

A website has been created and hosted to promote public awareness and provide information.  Details of the charity work can be found on here and a list of available dogs for adoption can also be viewed.  An understanding of the work undertaken by the charity is vital for further support.  Currently we have over 16,000 followers on social media. (12,000 23/24)
