In addition to the objectives set out in the Charity Commission, the three trustees oversee the day to day running of the charity and supporting the kennels.
The charity offers a project, which enables volunteers to support our staff in caring for resident dogs.
Health and Safety, Fire and Manual Handling polices are in place and provided to all staff and volunteers along with the appropriate training, guidance and induction programme.
Regular, planned team meetings take place with the kennel staff. The kennel manager decides on the overall care, delivery of training needs, nutritional needs and wellbeing of the individual dogs in our care.
Training and handling of all dogs is discussed in detail and daily summaries are shared between staff and volunteers to enable continuation of quality care.
We have links with on-site trainers and sign posting options with trainers for continuation of our work.
We also have links with canine nutritionists for advice surrounding health and well being for each dog. Trustee, Denise Akbani is a member of the Raw Pet Medics group.
Wider networks – we work with Pawpers in the Ruff, in Macedonia and have connections in Romania with one rescue correspondent. We have a UK rescue Vet that refers dogs to us that are possibly rehomable.
All trustees give their time voluntarily and received no remuneration or other benefits.

Section C Objectives and activities
Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document
To promote humane behaviour towards dogs, both in the UK and for dogs from Macedonia and Romania by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment, safe shelter and security for dogs in need of care by reason of mistreatment, abandonment, poor circumstances, or ill usage.
To actively seek homes for rescued animals and advance public understanding of dog welfare by providing training support to adopters.
In planning our activities for the year, we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit at our trustee meetings.
The main activities are as follows:
-
The introduction of a more detailed application form and home checking system for potential adopters;
-
A full training programme has been written with the help of our trainers, which provides further information regarding rescuing a dog;
Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)
-
Providing the opportunity to engage with our trainers on a 1-2-1 basis soon after adoption;
-
Pre-adoption screening has become more in-depth and intense discussions surrounding possible scenarios are discussed prior to adoption;
-
Full support to adopters is always provided on an ongoing basis; and
-
A dual microchipping service is always implemented to keep track of all the dogs with an admin support check in service which is gradually reduced to annually at an appropriate timescale.
These activities benefit the public by developing their knowledge and understanding of dog welfare and provides them with the skills and confidence to train their dog and provides companionship.
These activities also benefit our staff and volunteers by developing their self-confidence, knowledge and social skills; dealing with members of the public, social media and attending fundraising events.
Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)
You may choose to include further statements, where relevant, about:
-
policy on grantmaking;
-
policy programme related investment;
Volunteers are vital to our rescue, not only for the smooth running of our back up kennels but also continuing the cycle of rescue and support.
We are grateful for the many hours volunteers have spent working for the rescue. Without this valuable contribution of time, energy and expertise we would not have been able to achieve so much.
- contribution made by volunteers.

Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
During this first year of becoming a charity we have successfully continued to re-home over 500+ dogs which includes those from overseas and the UK, with one dog becoming an assistance dog and another being accepted into the Prison service as a scent working dog.
This is the first year the Charity has been operational and during this time we have raised £39.5k in donations which has enabled us to achieve the following:
-
Recruit 1 full time and 2 part time members of staff. Improvements to the kennels have been made including installing heating; electrics upgraded; roof repairs and new doors fitted
-
concrete slabs have been laid to the outside runs, which ensures more usability in all weathers
-
Outdoor living areas created for long term resident dogs A cabin has been erected to create a living space for transition to adoption
-
Play area upgraded to enhance mental stimulation for all the dogs Improved the pre-adoption criteria and screening has been implemented
-
We run social media campaigns An online merchandise store has been created to promote National awareness of our charity
-
We have set up quick PayPal donations account Local Press releases to promote our work have been published.
The funding has also enabled us to create two outdoor areas: Billy’s Bungalow and Syds Chalet These are for the longer resident stays and provide a sanctuary life style for those dogs that are a little more challenging to rehome.
Fundraising Events
We have attended several fundraising events to promote local awareness of the charity, to enlist support and recognition. We also run monthly auctions on our website generating valuable funding. The Buddies Club membership has been created which provides us with regular monthly contributions which aid with future financial planning and members feel included in the charity. Members receive a monthly newsletter and a chance of a gift which includes merchandise and dog related items.
Website
A website has been created and hosted to promote public awareness and provide information. Details of the charity work can be found on here and a list of available dogs for adoption can also be viewed. An understanding of the work undertaken by the charity is vital for further support. Currently we have over 12,000 followers on social media.
