TRUSTEES’ REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MAY 2026

The trustees present their report and financial statements for the year ended 31 May 2026.

The registered office is Old Free School, George Street, Watford, Hertfordshire, WD18 0BX.

Whilst polarisation has been a feature throughout 2025-26 especially for some users of social media, for Impactful Lives during this reporting year, we ploughed ahead and made significant positive changes to our LGBTQ+ communities. This has been a true collaboration with Impactful Governance, our Asset-locked Community Interest Company without whom, we would have been unable to provide the education, research and Mentoring support – we are very grateful for this relationship and the key relationship that benefits our LGBTQ+ communities. I must thank the volunteer Board of Trustees and other volunteers who continue to support the charity in delivering its objectives.

Goals

Impactful Lives now have two part-time members of staff to reach out further to more LGBTQ+ people and in addition provide essential support services such as the LGBTQ+ suicide prevention programme, LGBTQ+ Dementia Support, an incredible six “Queers & Peers” groups every month plus walking groups, Winter Rainbows and of course our ever-increasing Watford Pride (FREE) Picnic.

As a Third-Party Hate Crime Reporting Centre for LGBTQ+ Hate and abuse, we are saddened that we even need to provide this service but with the increased hostilities towards LGBTQ+ people. We must ensure that we record and report every incident, as the police told us bluntly “if you don’t report it, it didn’t happen”. We know of course that LGBTQ+ people have suffered and continue to suffer abuse in all its forms routinely and most of us shake it off and carry on but we must not accept it because if we do, it gives those abusers more strength to continue to do it to others and it is escalating in its intensity, spilling out to physical incidents where some used to be hidden online. Conversion Therapy must be outlawed fully and immediately we said this last year and still it has not been passed through parliament. As a charity we are non-political however, we must challenge when lack of action emboldens Hate Crimes against our communities. Leadership must be clear and strong from the top down although we are managing up at present and pushing for change by continuing our meetings with local Councillors, Mayors and MPs.

This allows me a final year to Mentor our existing Trustees to continue the good work of this incredible charity under section

12. Retirement of charity trustees

(2) Any person retiring as a charity trustee is eligible for reappointment.

(3) A charity trustee who has served for three consecutive terms may not be reappointed for a fourth consecutive term but may be reappointed after an interval of at least one year.

The year-out will give me opportunity to focus back on my day job and continue to support Impactful Lives through our Asset-locked C.I.C.” Impactful Governance” which has been a huge support in establishing Impactful Lives charity from scratch and maintaining the charity integrity.

So many other groups have sprung up during this reporting year that are not LGBTQ+ charities yet claim to be to draw money away from the real LGBTQ+ cause.

Pink-washing groups, individuals and organisations are using opportunities to raise money during Pride events yet offers nothing back to grass-roots charities like Impactful Lives, who genuinely do so much meaningful work for the LGBTQ+ community.

Impactful Lives can proudly stand tall in its conduct and support for LGBTQ+ people.

Financial review

The Statement of Financial Activities shows a surplus of £15,477 and the Statement of Financial Position shows net assets at 31 May 2026 of £27,479 (2025: surplus of £9,686, net assets of £12,002).

Structure, governance and management

The Trustees have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning its future activities. In particular, the Trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives that have been set.

TO THE TRUSTEES OF IMPACTFUL LIVES

I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of Impactful Lives (the charity) for the year ended 31 May 2026.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s financial statements carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act). In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. Accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or

  2. The financial statements do not accord with those records; or

  3. The financial statements do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understand of the financial statements to be reached.

1 Accounting policies

The principal accounting policies, all of which have applied consistently throughout the year, are set out below.

Charity information

Impactful Lives is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) registered in England and Wales. The registered office is Old Free School, George Street, Watford, Hertfordshire, WD18 0BX.

1.1 Accounting convention

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charity’s SORP (FRS102) ‘Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102)’ (as amended), and the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102). The charity is a public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102.

The charity has taken advantage of the provisions in SORP for charities applying FRS 102 Update Bulletin 1 not to prepare a Statement of Cash Flows.

The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the charity. Monetary accounts in these financial statements are rounded to the nearest £.

The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. The principal accounting policies adopted are set out below.

1.2 Going concern

At the time of approving the financial statements, the trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus the trustees continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting prepare the financial statements.

1.3 Charitable funds

Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of their charitable objectives unless the funds have been designated for other purposes.

Restricted funds are subject to specific conditions by donors as to how they may be used. The purposes and uses of the restricted funds are set out in the trustees’ report.

Endowment funds are subject to specific conditions by donors that the capital must be maintained by the charity.

1.4 Incoming resources

Income is recognised when the charity is legally entitled to it after any performance conditions have been met, the amounts can be measured reliably, and it is probable that income will be received.

Cash donations are recognised on receipt. Other donations are recognised once the charity has been notified of the donation, unless performance conditions require deferral of the amount. Income tax recoverable in relation to donations received under Gift Aid or deeds of covenant is recognised at the time of the donation.

Legacies are recognised on receipt, or otherwise if the charity has been notified of an impending distribution, the amount is known, and receipt is expected. If the amount is not known, the legacy is treated as a contingent asset.

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable and represents amounts receivable for goods and services provided in the normal course of business, net of discounts, VAT and other sales related taxes.

1.6 Resources expended

Costs expended in order to generate funds are recognised once it becomes obligated to paying those costs.

1.7 Cash and cash equivalents

Cash and cash equivalents include cash in hand, deposits held at call with banks, other shortterm liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less, and bank overdrafts. Bank overdrafts are shown within borrowings in current liabilities.

Basic financial liabilities

Creditors are not interest bearing and are stated at their nominal value.
