## **Charity no. 1203094**

## Chairs’ report and annual accounts

## **1 JAN 2024 – 31 DEC 2024**

Club structure

The name of the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (“the CIO”) is Boscastle and Crackington Gig Club CIO

The charity trustees manage the affairs of the CIO and may for that purpose exercise all the powers of the CIO on behalf of its membership and other donation suppliers. The CIO operates under the principle ‘to support amateur sport in the community’ and operates this generally across the geographic area of Boscastle and Crackington Haven. The Trustee positions are all carried out by volunteers who devote a large amount of their club time to this role. The club represents a mix of age and ability to meet our objective of healthy recreation in the community. We are aware that the mix is not currently ideally balanced and so measures are in place to actively seek and increase younger members including involvement for junior (under 16) membership and the 16 to 25 age group. During this reporting extensive progress has been made to build our junior section with membership increasing to capability of two junior crews, this has predominantly been led by our Junior lead trustee and his supporting team. The 16-25 age category is also showing signs of development particularly amongst beginner groups joining towards the end of this year.

Description of the Charity's Trusts Type of Governing Document: Constitution How the Charity is Constituted:

Boscastle & Crackington Gig Club is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, with an adopted constitution agreed by its members. The club’s constitution is based on Charity Commission adapted templates.

Charitable Incorporated Organisation Trustee Selection Methods: Board members are selected through election via secret ballot at the club’s Annual General Meeting, or otherwise when vacancies arise. Club members are eligible to vote.

Charity Commission Guidance is followed in onboarding and briefing new trustees..

## Statutory Declaration

The trustees declare that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the commission in exercising their powers or duties.

Aims and sustainability

The Trustee work includes reviewing and managing governance, safety, welfare, training provision, providing rowing for all members of the club, appropriate insurance levels, provision of a web site, email and other app based communications and regular meeting groups. The Trustees are working on developing structure and procedures to maintain and improve governance and management of the CIO enabling them to focus more on the objectives of the charity whilst maintaining compliance to our constitution. The club continues to source fundraising opportunities to support more community inclusion through amateur sport with the current priority being the purchase of a new boat and ancillary equipment.

## Risk

The club risk-assesses all club activities and events under the guidance of our Safety Officer.

There have been no reported accidents during this reported period.

## Competition

The club competed successfully in many events throughout the year as well as hosting our own winter league programme of ‘winter league’ competitions at Roadford lake.

Other events that the club has participated in during 2023 have included:

- World Championships at the Isles of Scilly

- Brixham regatta

- Lyme Regis masters and main regatta

- Appledore world SVs

- Rock main regatta and juniors

- Clovelly

- Junior champs Plymouth

- Mounts bay (across the bay race)

- Three rivers Plymouth

- Around the islands Teignmouth

- Newquay champs

## Training

Our 10+ crews are very active on the water, with most training twice per week which consist of a multifunction input from a variety of coaches and crew captains. Some members have completed extra external provision including CPGA coxing awareness, umpire training, safeguarding and first aid. In addition to this our club safety officer continues to design and deliver a multi layered coxes development programme which focuses on risk management, boat handling, sea coxing and race coxing. This training and development has not yet been implemented so we continue to utilise our current trained cadre of coxswains

## Resources

The club continues to ensure it maintains its facilities and equipment to ensure safe and effective use. The club has an Assets Manager Trustee lead who coordinates a maintenance team.

## Accounts

In this reporting year BCGC have been successful through a crowdfunder bid to match fund a ‘Sport England’ donation totalling £10000. These funds will be used to purchase a new GPG boat which will give us the ability to increase our ability to attract more members and underline our principle aim of sport in the community. This is the principle cause of the rise in our cash balance over the year and will be spent in early 2025 as the new GRP gig is procured.
