384 Bombardment Group Museum
Charity Number 1202861
Trustees Annual Report
0110312024 to 2910212024
Objectives and Activities
The objective of the Museum is to advance the education of the
public by means of creating and maintaining a Museum & Visitor
Centre to exhibit artefacts and provide information relating to 384th
BombardmentGroup based atGrafton Underwood during Worfd War
2. This will encompass the role of the USAAF (United States Arrny Air
Force) and the varied influences it had on the area of Kettering l East
Northamptonshire both directly and indirectly, through the utilisation of
existing historical buildings on the original site of the airfield.
Achievements and Performance
Purchase ofAssets
The Museum purchased two buildings- Operations Block and Norden
Bomb Sight Store that originally facilitated the planning of the flight
sorties that would have tsken place during World War Two. These will
be instrumental in the education of what happened on this site.
Clearance Groundworks and Utilities
The land on which both buildings are located has been sympathetically
cleared of trees and shrubs that had overgrown the area since the
buildings were last in operation (circa 1945). The utilities & drainage
available 80 years ago are now all decommissioned Currently there,
however wotk is ongoing to get these to site. Research is currently
underwayto identifywhat costeffective utility solutionscan be installed
on site.

Building Works
Intensive restoration worf( has tsken place on both buildings and are
now watertight by means of new roofs. The Operations building
currently is the main focus of restoration, this is a large task including
filling in conduitand making good the intemalwalls and rooms making
them into a condition suitable for use as a Museum. It is hoped that a
newvisitor Centre will be erected to replicate the Nissen Hut that was
there as Group Headquarters Admin building. This will be used in the
short term as a point of interest whilst the restoration work is ongoing
in the orsginal buildings.
Volunteers
The Museum has maintained a good number of volunteers and is
attracting new ones as the projectprogresses. The volunteers assist in
the restoration work, tours of the buildings and the airfeld side as well
as supportingvisits by veterans ofthe US ArmyAir Force that fought in
World War Two. We have a diverse range of volunteers, many with
specific professional skills that are utslised by the Museum.
Governance
Regular meetings have been held to conduct the Charity's nonnal
business to aid in decision making on the running of the Museum
Project. Currentlythere are three Trusteesthatmanage the day-to4ay
operations of the Charity, and it is hoped to expand this in the future.
Revenue
Nearly all of the Revenue has come from donations, supplemented by
events run by the Museum. Aline of merchandise has been created to
provide extra income from sales.
Social Media & Website
The Museum has its own Facebook page and intends to create a
website in the future. The Museum is supported by the American
stateside 384th Bomb Group Historical Association, theyalso advertise
the Museum on their Website and Facebook pages.

Financial Review
The Museum has been predominantly fvnded by donations, a large
one-off donationfrom 384th Bomb Group Historical Association in the
US and the rest through a GoFundMe page. Othersources of revenue
have come from the sales of merchandise and fundraising events.
There are no bad debts, and all creditors are paid in a timety manner.
The Trustees operate using a delegation of authoiity before any
expenditure is made, ensuring all costs are appropriate in the first
instance.
It is hoped that the Museum can be considered for grants to assist in
the large projects required to get utilities on site.
No reserves are currently held, this will be reviewed regularfy and
instigated as and when this is feasible. The Charity is a going concem
with sufficient funds to complete the Visitor Centre.
