The Megan Mai Foundation
Report of the trustees for the year ending 31[st] March 2025
Our Aims
The aim of the foundation is to provide help and support to children and young people in their battle against serious illness.
We aim to help as many people as possible during this tough time and also to provide support not just to the individuals going through the treatment but also their parents for whom this is also a hard time.
Our objectives
Our objectives are set to reflect the principles of the foundation, it is important to us that we maintain and continue the work already carried out
Our key objectives for the year as set out by the trustees were:
-
Raise key funds for the foundation
-
Provide as many Air purifiers as we can to those that need it
-
Work closely with local charities, Latch, The teenage cancer trust and dreams and wishes
-
To build closer links with the local children’s hospital
-
To provide a support network for people to reach out to in order to discuss any issues
Review of Activities and Achievements
As a Foundation we have continued to work alongside the hospital to supply children with Air purifiers, these purifiers help purify 99% of the air to help stop and prevent infections while people are recovering. We know that infections can cause serious set back in people’s recovery and this is why these machines play such a vital part. In this year we have provided 120 purifiers, this is worked in association with The Heath and with people reaching out to us.
The Chairman of the Foundation (Richard) has continued to spread the word of the foundation by selling merchandise with the Megan Mai logo on. We are able to spread our branding by having a visible marketing item and also this helps us to raise vital funds and is one of our main sources of income.
One new chapter that the foundation has taken this year is to help provide physical and mental support to those who have been left behind. We have enlisted the services of a therapist and been able to offer these sessions to people who are dealing with the grief that has been left behind. As a Foundation we found that this is a vital role in helping someone to come to terms with their loss but also to continue their life after with meaning. This year we have provided 40 1-2-1 sessions to help grieving parents. This is an extremely important area for the charity and act as a vital link between grieving parents and help them form bonds and a support network.
This year we have Partnered with the Ronald McDonald ward charity, we have made donations to this charity to help them continue their work as we feel they are a charity that align with our goals and mission. This partnership will continue next year.
Our main fund-raising day for the last few years has been the annual Fan Dance in association with the SAS at Pen Y Fan. 35 people represented the Megan Mai foundation and completed the 15 mile walk (Weighted/Unweighted) to help raise vital funds to help us achieve our goals. This is not just a one day event though. This includes month’s of training where the team get together not only to improve their physical health but also their mental health. Walking and talking is a vital part and we encourage people to get together and improve their health. This event does provide much needed funds for the charity.
We plan to continue all these services in to 2025/26 and looking to be able to help in many more ways.
Our financials
The financial statements show a net income of £22,735.22 for the 12-month activities. This is a decrease from 23/24 but this hasn’t stopped us doing any work that was expected this year.
All income is raised by fund raising and sponsorship and non-was provided by Grant’s or from local authorities. The main source of income came from the selling of merchandise and the annual Fan Dance.
As a charity we are fully reliant on these vital sources and the hard work of the trustees and volunteers in organising these events.
Our main expenditure relates to purchasing and branding of our merchandise, Air purifiers and costs used towards fund raising events like our annual Fan dance.
As a Foundation we don’t hold any assets
Our closing bank balance was £29,979.28, this was an increase in the year of £10,367.44 which is the retained profit from 24/25. As a Foundation we expected to spend quite significantly in 2024/25 on providing food and equipment for families at the Heath, unfortunately due to personal changes and various challenges with the Heath this didn’t take off as expected. This does mean we have the reserves to help push forward with this project in 25/26 or provide additional funding on projects currently in place.
