Misterton Bowls Club Registered Charity Number 1202791
Trustees Report
Year ending 30[th] September 2025
The work of our charity primarily provides a facility for people of varying ages, who live in the area and Villages surrounding Misterton to take part in a social activity, interact with other members whilst providing regular gentle exercise. The majority of members, but not exclusively, are retired or semi-retired people, who enjoy the regular meeting of a variety of other people in order to play a game of flat green bowls. This allows them to get exercise that more strenuous games or sports may preclude them from entering into.
The club is open from early April to late September each year. The club is open to members to enjoy a game at any time during the summer months. In addition the club currently plays matches in three different leagues, at a competitive level for which the club enters teams to play matches. There is also an inter - club competition in differing categories. Saturday afternoon is an open roll up, to which anyone wishing to try bowls out, to see if would suit them, can come along to the Green and give the game a try. The Club verbally advertises these Saturday events, which are proving to have some success.
In the closed season the Club holds several fundraising events, not only to keep the Club viable, but to socialise with members and their families, friends and other members of the general public. This not only keeps members in touch with the Club, but provides a point of contact for many older people, some who live alone who then can enjoy the company of other people in a social environment.
As with the majority of similar small Clubs, we have continuing expense to maintain the Club and premises. The most obvious expense is keeping the Green, which is the playing surface, to a level that meets conditions required to keep it competitive. This is not just a summer activity, but a year round work. The majority of this work is conducted by members volunteering. Advice is also sought and required by professional experts in Spring and Autumn. Our advisor has given us the knowledge to be able to do most of the work. Certain work requires equipment we do not have, which we then have to pay for. Currently we are able to afford the extensive general maintenance on the Green, but like many it is an uphill struggle. The lawn mower we have is in need of replacement, for which we are trying to build a reserve.
This year, in addition to our members annual subscriptions, we have had a few donations and have raised money through fundraising events. Most of this money has been spent on professional services, new equipment, maintenance and repair of existing equipment, electricity bills, insurance and general maintenance of clubhouse facilities. Balance sheet is attached.
