Misterton Bowls Club

## Registered Charity Number 1202791

Trustees report

Year ended 30[th] September 2024

The work of our charity involves providing a facility for people in the area to take part in a social activity which also provides regular gentle exercise. The majority of people who play bowls are retired people who maybe cannot take part in most other sports which are more strenuous.

The club is open to members to enjoy a game at any time during the summer months. In addition there are regular organised sessions and weekly league matches for those who wish to play at a competitive level. The club is open from early April to late September each year.

In addition there are several social fundraising events throughout the winter for members and their families and friends to take part in.

The club provides a point of contact for many older people, some who live alone, to enjoy the company of others in a sociable environment.

The major problem with a small club like ours is maintaining the green or playing surface. To be able to compete at a competitive level the green has to be very carefully maintained on a weekly basis. The majority of this work is carried out by members on a voluntary basis but we do need the advice of an expert in the spring and autumn. Our advisor has given us the knowledge to be able to do the majority of the work ourselves but there are certain tasks which we do not have the equipment to carry out ourselves, hence we have to pay him to do these things. The work on the green does require expensive equipment which needs regular servicing and maintenance. One of our problems is that we have a very old mower which needs regular maintenance and may not last much longer. We are trying each year to raise extra funds to build up a reserve fund of around £5000 for such an emergency.

This year, in addition to our members annual subscriptions, we have had a few donations and have raised money through our fundraising events. Most of this money has been spent on professional services, new equipment, maintenance and repair of existing equipment, electricity bills, insurance and general maintenance of clubhouse facilities. Balance sheet attached.
