St Ives Pilot Gig Club's primary purpose is the
promotion of community participation in healthy
recreation. In particular by the provision of
facilitie5, encouragement, and instruction5 in the
sport of rowing, in parhcular Cornish Pilot Gigs
for the benefit of the public.
DurinE the period the organisation has provided
coachin& training and racing opportunitie5 for
members. At the end of the year 35 local
residents were members of the club and annual
membership include5 access to equipment.

In 2023 St Ives Pilot Gigi Club were able to be
invited and attend the World Pilot Gig
Championships on the Isles of Scilly. the 5 Island
Race in Dorset and where weather allowed,
attended a number of local regattas during the
summer of 2023.
Attending such events provided opportunities for
member5 to competitively race and in order to
do so developed their skills, knowledge and
fitness to compete. Those who were not
competing were also encouraged to attend.
At the same time rowng training was provided
throughout the year with 4 sessions per week
available during the summer and I session in the
winter supported by circuit training at the local
sports centre. providinE a positive and inclusive
environment to engage in health recreation and
receive instruction in the heritage sport of gig
rowing
Members have formed strong friend5hip5 and
many have commented on the mental health
benefits of meeting new people and having

During the period under review club 7 new
objectives set
female members came for a taster session and
subsequently joined the club increasing
community participation in healthy recreation.
The or8ani5ation did not set any specilic
fundraising objecrives in 2023, but was fortunate
to be invtted to the St Ive5 food festival and raise
£985.75, through the operation of a raffle and
guess the weight of the oar competition. Local
business donated prizes to support the club.

In addition to this a JustGiving fundraiser was
launched as a result of storm damage to a boat
whilst on mooring. This enabled the organisation
to raise £3,480.CM) before bank charges of
£120.67 to pay for repairs and subsequentlv

Fisherman's Co-operative who owned the Gig
and wanted to sell it rather than continue to
loan her for the benefit of the organi5ation.
Application was made to the lottery to obtain
addthonal funding for a 3 gig to enable growth
of the orEanisation but was unfortunately
declined.

second home ownership means there is a very
small comwnunity from which to draw new
members. In addition to this other personal and
work commitments can impact of members
being able to remain actively involved. Both of
the above risk a reduction in membership and
