ANNUAL REPORT, 16 months ended 30[th] June 2025
Aims & Purposes
The Winchester Lido Sports Association CIO provides premises, facilities and necessary basic equipment for members of the public and associated member organisations to participate in badminton, martial arts, fitness training and other recreational activities as interest and demand may arise. We aim to actively encourage and promote recreation and sport in the community thus meeting the requirement of public benefit.
Activities
The centre’s main activities are Badminton and Martial Arts. The main hall has two badminton courts and the right wing has a permanent matted area dedicated to Martial Arts. The centre is also used for various fitness classes including dance and pilates and also for table tennis, indoor cricket and film showings.
Leased Left Wing of Building
A sports and health club leased the left wing of the building for part of the period.
Achievements and performance
The Winchester Lido Sports Association Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) (registered number 1202728) was incorporated on 14th April 2023 and began operations from 1st March 2024 replacing an existing unincorporated charity The Winchester Lido Sports Association (1085447). Agreement to the transfer of the ownership of all assets and liabilities was made on 26[th] January 2024 with the legal transfer of the freehold property from the legal custodian (Winchester Lido Sports Associated Association Trustee Limited) being completed by deed on 1[st] March 2024.
The change was to improve governance and the corporate structure and to effectively manage the Charity and the custodian trustee as one body.
Following major capital expenditure in the year to 29[th] February 2024 for repairs to the front of the Lido building, this period was intended to be about consolidation to face the mounting financial pressures of more repairs to our ageing building. However the committee has had to carry out the replacement of the roof over the Martial Arts area in the right wing and negotiate for a new tenant to the left wing area following the collapse of Holloway Health and Fitness company.
Financial Review
Total receipts from all activities over 16 months was £82,007 and total payments to maintain the building and pay our staff was £127,570. There was an excess of payments over receipts for the 16 month period of £45,563.
As part of funds transferred from The Winchester Lido Sports Association, £1,000 was received from Tesco’s Community Fund to improve a room for use by

members. As the governing committee have had to focus on the roof replacement and the tenancy of the left wing we have not yet progressed this improvement.
Given the lack of income from the left wing and the necessary expenditure on the roof, the Martial Arts club and the Monday club have lent the Lido funds to ensure that we have sufficient cashflow in the short term and we can satisfy our policy for reserves.
Reserves Policy
It is the policy of the charity to maintain a balance of unrestricted funds equivalent to three months normal expenditure, equivalent to £10,000. The balance on unrestricted funds always met this target.
Repairs Reserve
The policy of the charity also allows for the accumulation of reserves to fund major restoration and maintenance work to the building.
Staff and Volunteers
We would like to thank our centre manager and volunteers who work hard to make the Lido a great place for sport and recreation.
The Lido Committee is responsible for the overall direction of the charity, including how funds are spent. The committee generally meets at least 4 times a year.
Related Party Transactions
From time to time the trustees are required to make payments for goods and services on behalf of the charity. In the 16 months to 30[th] June 2025 payments were made as follows:
To the treasurer Mr N C Smith, £79.99 reimbursement for a Microsoft licence.
To the Lido Chairman Mr F Burgess, £60.22 reimbursement for materials to repair the Dojo vent screen.
To the treasurer Mr GP Sorensen, £34.00 reimbursement for Company House fees regarding the Lido Limited Company.
