Trustee Annual Report: Seascale Recreational Association Registration No 1202702

Address: Gosforth Road, Seascale

Trustees: M. Franks; P. Holburt; A. Lee (Chairman); J. McElroy; D. Milburn; D. Moore; J. Pennells. Secretary: J. Orrell

Seascale Recreational Association (SRA) are in their 3rd year as a CIO and this report covers the period 1[st] January until 31[st] December 2025.

The SRA continues to retain 7 Trustees (listed above), sadly one of our trustees (Mr S. Brown) passed away during 2025.

The SRA continues to provide a recreational playing field for the benefit of the village, thereby meeting it’s charitable objective ‘ providing facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving of life for the said occupants ’. The facility has two regular paying user groups: Seascale Cricket Club and West Lakeland Dog Training Club; both organisations continue to thrive and make regular use of the field. Both groups maintain their rental payments, which generates sufficient income to maintain the field. The outer circumference of the ground has, in the past, been maintained, on an irregular basis, by volunteers and a local prison work group. Changes to the prison group has meant their visits were severely curtailed during 2025.

The field is used by a number of local village groups on an irregular basis, both organised (youth club, scouts etc) and casual (individuals and groups); the field is also regularly and heavily used by dog walkers to exercise their dogs.

Once every year the field is used by cyclists taking part in the annual C2C cycling event, who camp overnight on the field. Another annual event is The Rat Race (a running event from Seascale to the summit of Scafell Pike and return); the runners use the field as the start and finish for the event.

The ‘Game On’ group (supported by the GDF) have used the field during school holidays to provide a range of sporting activities for school age children. The venture is programmed to continue for 2026 and the SRA are very happy to provide support. The accounts show an excess of income over expenditure of £1617.18 and the SRA retains a sufficiently healthy bank balance.

In conclusion the SRA has met it’s charitable objectives, is financially viable, and this T
