CHAIRMAN’S REPORT CORNWALL SYMPHONY ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

APRIL 6[TH] 2025

I would like to thank the Committee for their ongoing support to me and the support they give each other as a group. I also extend my thanks to Elizabeth and Rachel who support the committee with meeting minutes and uniform order management. Elizabeth is also a sectional rep for the alto members. Jilly is sectional rep for the sopranos and also operates the petty cash system. Alastair’s mum Elizabeth is assistant treasurer alongside Alice our treasurer

I am grateful to Martin and Barry for the many things they do for the Chorus, most recently acting as car parking Marshalls!

I also thank Shirley and Jane our librarians for managing our music and Chris and Derek as Chorus Marshalls for the choir particularly at concerts and events

Jackie looks after our new members and welcomes them into the choir, explaining what we do and helping them to get settled. Karen and Fiona deputise for the ladies sectional reps and taking registers in their absence. Paul looks after the gentlemen of the choir as their sectional rep.

I also recognise all Emily’s hard work with publicity and her efforts to raise awareness of the choir activities throughout the year.

Thank you to our cake makers for the cake raffle at each rehearsal, who volunteer repeatedly to bring delicious cakes to tempt the members to contribute to the cake draw.

I would also like to thank all the members whom I have seen develop from a group of singers to a group of friends who sing together. I have also been very impressed by all our members keenness to embrace and learn new music.

My gratitude is directed especially to our talented Musical Director – Alastair Taylor. His passion for the music we perform is a great encouragement to choir members, ultimately resulting in great appreciation from our audiences.

We look forward to another year of music making and entertaining those who attend our concerts. We are building on our success year on year and plans for future performances are in discussion.
