Introduction ## 1.1 Objectives and Activities For the public benefit, to relieve the needs of those suffering bereavement or loss as a result of a miscarriage, by means of, but not exclusively: i. the provision of memory boxes and emergency hygiene packs; ii. the provision of peer support via phone, email and online community; iii. raising public awareness of miscarriage.” This report outlines the activities, achievements, and financial performance of Morgan's Wings during the financial year January 2024 – 31[st] December 2024. Our mission is to help parents cope with the initial and long term aftermath of a miscarriage. Morgan's Wings exists to provide support, services, and outreach for parents (and families) affected by miscarriage. In setting out our objectives and planning our activities, our trustees have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance. 2. Objectives for the year:- - To provide support to families dealing with miscarriage. - Increase awareness of miscarriage through campaigns, partnerships, and community activities. During the year, Morgan's Wings carried out several key activities to achieve these objectives: We provided 154 memory boxes to individuals We provided 103 “Certificates of Life” We delivered 49 care packages to hospitals We supported 24 families via e-mail and text messages We organised a memorial tree for Baby Loss Awareness week which had 79 names added to it. Feedback in this period included: “Morgan’s Wings were there when I needed them. I was so grateful for their kind words and the carefully put together memory box I received.” “ I received a certificate of life for my baby. It makes me feel comforted knowing that at least I have something to remember my baby with.” “Thank you for all your support since the loss of baby *****. I am so grateful that you were there to talk me through my loss and the support you gave me afterwards to look after myself. I will forever be grateful.” Although the outcomes are difficult to record we have put in place strategies going forward for 2025 that will help us to record tangible outcomes. The Roles & Contributions of Volunteers Morgan’s Wings are lucky enough to have an incredible army of volunteers. During the period of January 1[st] – December 31[st] 2024, 17 people volunteered their time to help do bucket collections, making up memory boxes and helping at events, donating approximately 55 hours between them. With another 33 volunteers who knitted and crocheted items donating a further estimated 570 hours. _Name of Charity: Trustees’ Annual Report & Financial Statements_ _Page 4 of 8_ ## 4. Financial Review Morgan's Wings received funding from various sources, including donations and fundraising events. Our total income for the year was £6,409.93, which represents a significant increase compared to the previous year. We were lucky enough to have the support of a department within South Wales Police who fundraised a fantastic £2189.00. The total expenditure for the year was £3360.45.This is broken down into support costs, charitable activities, fundraising costs and governance costs. - 76 % of our expenditure is charitable activities which include but is not limited to the memory boxes, memory box items, the products for the hygiene care packages and postage. _Name of Charity: Trustees’ Annual Report & Financial Statements_ _Page 5 of 8_ The charity holds £5,000 in reserves, which is sufficient to cover just over 12 months of operational costs at its current level. This year we adopted a reserves policy which states “Morgan's Wings Charity aims to maintain reserves equivalent to 100% of its annual operating costs. This target will provide sufficient funds to: - Cover operational costs for a minimum of 12 months in case of unexpected income fluctuations. - Support strategic initiatives and project development. - Respond to emergencies or unforeseen circumstances.” Morgan’s Wings has no debt outstanding. 5. Structure, Governance, and Management Morgan’s Wings is a CIO and is governed by our constitution which clearly sets out how we operate. Trustees are recruited by nomination and remain in post for a period of 1 year. There must be at least six charity trustees. In accordance with the Constitution, Trustees are appointed or re-appointed for a term of 1 year by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. In appointing Trustees due consideration is given to ensuring that the Trustees have, between them, the skills and experience necessary to manage the charity effectively and in accordance with charity law. Trustees for the year included: Judith Davies - Secretary Geoffrey Davies - Chair Emma Stubley Emma O’Sullivan Gareth Brown Cerys Watkins – Treasurer During the year 2024, we held trustee meetings to ensure we updated and upheld our governance processes. 6. Last year our priorities for this year included: - Increase fundraising to a minimum of £2,000 by holding more fundraisers and to engage a local business. This was achieved through engagement with South Wales Police and running a March for Miscarriage during the month of March, a celebration evening in May and a fundraising afternoon tea in August. - Increase the number of memory boxes to 200 by being more active on Social Media. Despite an increase in activity on social media, we fell just short of this goal. _Name of Charity: Trustees’ Annual Report & Financial Statements_ _Page 6 of 8_ - Increase volunteer engagement with practical face to face volunteer mornings. – This has been achieved with our events and bucket collections. - Provide a safe space for affected families to seek support. Unfortunately the take up of the safe space has been poorly attended. Having spoken with other charities, this seems to be something that is happening across the board. This is something that we will still offer going forward and following a volunteer morning to ensure that we are not wasting people’s time whilst also offering that safe space. ## 7. Future Plans Our priorities for the upcoming year include: Increase awareness of Morgan’s Wings and miscarriage by collaborating with the media and organising bucket collections. Increase fundraising by holding more fundraisers and to engage others to run fundraising events. Increase volunteer engagement with practical face to face volunteer mornings. Long term (10 year plan) we aim to have our own premises which will be the hub of Morgan’s Wings including the storage and construction of memory boxes, a working office and a charity shop. We aim to provide a set amount of counselling hours to individuals to help with the grieving process. We aim to increase our involvement in local hospitals and build our network of professionals. ## 4.
